When Israel troops withraw, Hezbollah will celebrate the fact that they have withstood the mighty Israeli military. Hezbollah will re arm with thousands more Iranian and Syrian missiles. Israel will not withdraw troops until peacekeepers get there; Hezbollah will not cease firing until Israeli troops withdraw; Lebanese Cabinent meeting that was to meet has been cancelled=seems like a very thin resolution, seems like a very fragile peace.

Bob,
One thing that has always amazed me is, you and I and a vast number of people can look at a situation like the challenge of Hezballah to Israel.
We see prevailing fact presenting themselves that says with a certantity that Hezballah is not going to Tuesday morning announce to their followers that the war game is over, go home and get a job. Turn you guns in to a plow or hoe.
If, Israel had not bowed to pressure from the US and others to not cripple Hezballah to the point of no return, then they would have been inclined to give up .
But, Now they have all the more reason (And with some creditability) to instruct their followers to clean and oil their weapons, that the real battle lies ahead. Israel, through pressure, backed down, now they do not have a victory to bragg about how they destroyed the enemy.
Hezballah did not retreat, they held their ground, Israel was forced to retreat, sure they did bloody the nose of the enemy but they did not destroy the nose from the face or disfigure the face so it would be recognized again.
Hezballah still has its weapons, its underground structure, a battle tested army, still a source for resupplies. And probably one of the most important advantages that Hezballah gained out of this war is, that they challenged Israel on their own soil and lived to tell about it.
Israel will again have to defend themselves, it will not be with pen and paper
it will be with the sword.
If you have a bully down the street that throws rocks at your cat after you have advised him not to, the quickest way to eliminate the problem and have peace is to destroy his rocks and cut his arm off so he will not want to throw another rock.
Israel threatened Hezballah but didnot complete the mission.

If "cease fires" actually promoted peace, the Middle East would be the most peaceful place on the planet.

I read in the news that 64 Hezbollah missiles fell on Israel in one day yesterday or the day before, resulting in 8 wounded people. At that rate, I'm thinking all the oil money in the middle east will be used up on spent missiles before I can fill my tank again. Eight missiles per wounded person doesn't sound like a very impressive kill rate. It seems to me that one guy with a six shooter could do better. If it takes eight missiles to produce one wounded person, war has to get prohibitively expensive long before victory is achieved. No wonder they've been fighting inconclusively over there for so long.
