We've just received word of the death of Dr. Manuel Chavier, long-time New England pastor of the New Bedford, Massachusetts, International Church of the Nazarene. A popular evangelist, former General Board member, former ENC trustee, and multi-cultural leader, in 1948 Manny founded the church he pastored his entire career. Few pastoral careers exceed his 58 year tenure. He was a tremendous encourager to all he met.
I'll post more details later.

Thanks for letting us know. I hadn't heard yet. May we all know the love of Christ as Manny did. His question to most everyone whom he came across was always, "Has anyone told you that they love you today?" Many people say it. Manny always meant it.
Many of you may remember the NMI book a couple of years ago entitled, If My People: The Manny Chavier Story. It was a small snapshot of his lengthy ministry.
A simple Google search for "Manny Chavier" (click here for it) (http://www.google.com/search?q=manny+chavier&start=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official) will provide many stories of his ministry.
Below is a recent article in the Christian Scholar, the alum magazine for ENC.

After reading that little bit about him, I wish I had had the honor of knowing Dr. Chavier. I venture to say that our world and our church will not be the same without him.

I can easily predict one of the most lively and celebratory funeral to be had.
God bless his family; Manny is a very rich man because of the treasure he
has stored up in heaven.

Manny will be missed. He was an encourager to me during my tenure at ENC.

Manny was a great supporter of missions. I spoke in his church a couple times over the years. Great guy!

Hello, Herb
It will take me a while to look through my picture library. I know I have a picture or two of Manny. He was one of my favorite trustees.

I appreciated and enjoyed the missionary reading book about him a few years back and will be glad for a visit with him when we all get to Heaven.

Thursday evening we begin district assembly. It will be the first time in nearly sixty years that he has not been at New England District Assembly. Many of us will be aware of his physical absence, but acknowledge his continued influence. Manny's favorite and often quoted expression was, "It's the Lord, It's the Lord, It's the Lord!"

Another one was Manny singing, "Has anyone told you 'I love you' today?"
