I am back from church camp, had a wonderful time. The evangelists were Dr. Nelson Perdue and Rev. Duane Smith. The song evangelist was Marvin Jones (he was wonderful).
I was wondering how many states still have an operating church camp.
We built a new tabernacle on the campground three years ago. It cost one million dollars and it was paid off in three years. Now that is amazing. God has been good to the WV Camp.

The Tennessee District has a beautiful camp grounds and wonderful spirit filled services. Marvin led part of the music and sung at our camp this year. He is from Nashville. You probably knew that.

Canada Central district , a small district , has operated 2 church camps . This year they finally decided to sell the smaller one ( but also the nicest I think- what I 'd call more "campy " ) and concentrate on running a first class program at the other( the one I grew up with and attended most ) . It was the 100th annversary for the one being sold and the 60th for the other .

AND, my new (old) dining room table is made from one of the OLD DOORS from the OLD tabernacle from the WV Camp!!! It is a wonderful old farm-house looking table and I love it!!!
The WV Campground is one of my favorite places in the world -- many great memories and friends made there. I spent 6 weeks every summer at that campground when I was in high school....WASHING DISHES!!! LOL
So, now I have a great memory sitting right in our dining area. It is a treasure to me.

The Dallas District has a campground that has hosted holiness campmeetings every year since the 1880's. The district still has a camp meeting every year as well as children's and youth camps, local church retreats, women's retreats, men's retreats, etc.. A marvelous camp director, who shall remain nameless lest any other district try to steal him, has overseen numerous improvements to the physical facilities and made it financially self-supporting.
NewStart-Frisco has a weekend retreat there every year -- sometimes twice a year -- and it's always the highlight of our church year. We cancel the Sunday morning service in Frisco and encourage the whole church to attend, even though the campground is 3 hours away. Generally, upwards of 2/3 of our Sunday morning crowd does attend the retreat. We play together, eat together and worship together, culminating in what usually turns out to be a tear-filled, three-hour testimony service on Saturday night, sharing together what God has done in our lives during the preceding year, and then a wonderful communion service on Sunday morning that is so deeply imbued with the presence of Christ that a "low church" Protestant could almost believe in transubstantiation.
And as an old-time Nazarene, I walk those grounds and think, if ever there was such a thing as holy ground, this must be one of those places. I walk where once walked and prayed and preached such people as Uncle Buddie Robinson, Mary Lee Cagle, C.B. Jernigan and the first Harmon Schmelzenbach, and I find myself praying that God will make us as effective at drawing our generation to an atoning, redeeming, healing, loving, transforming God as those pleople were.

I attend the West Texas Family Camp every summer (yes I live on the Dallas District). We LOVE Campmeeting and will continue to go. It is the highlight of our summer.

PineCrest Camp in Missouri, serving as one of its caretakers, is where I got my intro as to how Church life really operated and witnessed the different personalities of the young & old played out "when their guard was down". :) Having no prior church experience, it was a very rewarding and eye opening event that grew me "quick" as a new Christian.

I felt bad that we didn't get to any of the final services at Clarksburg as it was the first Nazarene Camp we attended (when Carl was pastoring in Meaford). We didn't hear until after the fact.
Clarksburg was definitely more "campy" but a little too rugged for my taste. We would drive to camp meetings from Meaford, rather than stay on site :-)
