I love, love, love my Chiropractor... his practice is called ChiroSpa and it is a little piece of heaven on earth. It is so relaxing. Did I mention I love my Chiropractor?

Like many polls...not enough choices :)
I would have preferred a response which allowed me to express my sense of suspicion without labelling the whole profession as "quacks".
A chiropracter treated (and charged me) for six weeks for pain when my real issue was an ovarian cyst. My brother had an adjustment done on his neck which left him numb in one arm for several months.
So I would be very reluctant to go see one again but it is possible that there are some good ones out there.

How many chiropractors does it take to change a lightbulb?
Just one but he has to do it again every week.

I don't necessarily think they are quacks, but I just do not agree with their philosophy of medical care.

My back doesn't hurt. How do I answer?

I thought they were quacks until I hurt my back at work a few months ago. I made about a half-dozen visits to a (Nazarene) chiropractor over a two-week period and went from barely able to walk, to no pain at all, and have stayed that way for the few months since. It was my low back/hip. The feds have actually agreed that a chiro is at least as good for low back pain as a massuese or physical therapist, so I figured there was no harm in trying.
I just told him I would be leaving the country soon so I wasn't interested in a long term relationship; I just wanted the pain fixed as quickly as possible, so he did. At 50, I'm nearly the only person I know in my age range who doesn't have chronic back problems, so I basically blew off everything he said that didn't directly relate to fixing the injury.

I have very good chractor-practor here in Melbourne. He has only "suggested" I make a follow-up appointment for the first issue I ever went to him with -- took 3 adjustments to get over the condition. Normally, he will discuss what brought on the onset of the pain -- then recommend stretches and corrections to stop from doing it again. He does an adjustment, then says for me to see how that feels and follow-up if I need one. I really don't feel he "adjusts" my wallet. I was having some intense lower back pain last week and went for adjustment -- the relief was pretty quick. Now, after sitting in a vehicle driving to Nashville and back this weekend, I am contemplating a routine visit just to keep it all lined up. Got to travel again to nashville next weekend...so, I would love to remain pain free.
They are good for some things, not everything. Mine seems to understand that.

My wife has been having lots of problems because along towards late afternoon and evenings her legs would pain, even her knee caps.
She got to talking with someone at work, who used to have a very similar problem. This person had been in a car accident and di not realize it, but had a slight whiplash and never went to see a doc. Now 2 or three years later, she went to a chiropractor and she feels like a new person. So Suzy is now starting, this is her third visit and it is helping her. She was also in an accident a little over a year ago, and probably had whiplash. The pain she had in the legs was bad enough that she didnt know how she was going to motivate.

I too have a wonderful, Nazarene Chiropractor. I have severe arthritis in my low back. I would not be able to walk without adjustments. Not to mention my neck. I had a severe car accident in the 60's. Caused some major problems in my neck. I get horrible headaches. An adjustment fixes me up.

Hey Brad- pass the name of you Nazarene Chiropractor on to me please. Thanks!
I don't remember his first name. I just have "Dr. Ryder" in my phone. His office is in Plano and I think he attends the Nazarene church in Dennison. Wherever he attends, he's attended there all his life. Nice guy, new practice, his wife works as a receptionist in his office and their toddler toddles around the office entertaining herself and the patients. My 15-year-old Jake was going with me on my visits, just to play with the baby.
By the way, not to bind him with a precedent, but he let me pay out my bill after he finished his services.
I'll e-mail you his phone numbers.
