This is one of the books from a series by the Duke Center for Reconciliation. Living Without Enemies explores the missional ministry and reconciliation that emerged from one woman's deep hurt for the gun violence in her community. It specifically details the path of engagement and reconciliation that happened over gun violence in Durham, NC, but it also serves as a larger framework for people to engage in social problems in their own communities.

I found this book profoundly moving and intimately connected to the heart of God. This is an example of the kind of life and ministry to which I aspire. It also provides some very concise and helpful means for addressing an overwhelming problem. Often people fail to act because the issue seems too big. Living Without Enemies helps to bring these issues down to a personal level.

Beyond simply the story of forgiveness and reconciliation, the book talks about the larger narrative of loving people as God loves us, despite their faults, failures, and poor choices. It talks about real community and the blessed pain that comes from living without enemies.

I should hope every person who claims Christ would get a chance to read this book.
