I am not ususally to worried about aches and pains (I am getting a little long in the tooth). But lately (past few weeks) I have had a nagging problem. I can be sitting sewing, watching tv, reading, etc, etc, and my heart will start pounding between my breasts and I feel like something has scared me too death. It could be called anxiety but it happens several times a day and sometimes it keeps me up at night. It actually wakes me from a sound sleep. It feels like I know something bad is about to happen (you know that feeling.)

I am also taking Prilosec for acid reflux and now I still have heartburn several times a day.

Are the two related, are they not related. Does it mean nothing or something
Does it sound like anything you know about? Will it pass? Am I dying (just kidding, had to lighten the mood)?

Should I talk to doctor or do you think this is something that will pass?

i don't know enough to address your question of whether to go to the doctor or not - as in it could be serious. i am learning though that i would rather be safe than sorry. So, with that - go to the doctor. i am sure that one of the real nurses on board can address that question more professionally.

As for the drug, i looked it up with the ever famous epocrates - and the common reactions to Prilosec are headache, diarrhea, adbominal pain (and in peds - URI symptoms and otitis medial). They have some rare reactions but they seem to be mainly liver, blood and pancreatic in types. i am not seeing cardiac stuff. Though, i suppose anything bloody can be cardiac.

Yes you should go to the doctor! And NO I'm not a medical student or professional. ha ha

However, I just believe in going to the doctor. Went today to my PCP. Go next week to my Oncologist and the following week to the GYN. ha ha

I feel like I know my PCP well enough that we have to be careful to stay "on topic" or we start talking about lots of fun stuff like his 4 daughters and he starts running late with other patients. ha ha.

So...I would go to the doctor. If it is concerning enough that you have asked "should I go" then you usually should. Maybe its nothing, but at least you'll know.

That is my two cents!

Love ya Doris.

I would suggest going to the dr. Several years ago, I was in a very stressful work situation with a very demanding boss. One Sat. morning I was awoken or awaken ... whatever.....from my sleep with a hurting between my breasts. Mama insisted on taking me to the ER and they did all these tests and found out it was acid reflux. I was on prilosec for a few rounds. This has happened to me twice and each time was when I was extremely tired and stressed.

Please take care of yourself.

Doris, this is nurse Mildred. Do you know how to count your pulse? You need to know how fast it is and if it is beating regularly. You could get a digital blood pressure gadget and that would give you your pulse rate. What needs to happen is that you need to get the problem documented while it is in progress. Do you live near a fire station? If so, get someone to drive you there and they may do an EKG to document the problem. The paramedics will know if you are in acute distress and if you need to go to the hospital. If not then get the rhythm strip they ran and take it to your doctor or preferably a cardiologist. Your doctor may want you to wear a monitor to try and capture the problem in progress. There are many types of rhythm problems and lots of ways to treat them. Sometimes your thyroid may be overactive and cause problems but many times they really cannot determine a cause. In 1994 I had what is called atrial flutter. They did a new procedure on me to slow my pulse and thank God I have not had any other problem. I recommend that you go to your doctor soon. There is no need to just sit home and be concerned about it. If at any time you really feel frightened , just go to the E.R.
I still remember our talks at the retreat and what a wonderful time we all had. I hope that we can do it again soon. If I can help please send me a personal e-mail. With prayers, Mildred

Low potassium can cause something like that, too. I agree with everyone...go to the doctor. It could be related to your diabetes. We diabetics should not take chances with our health...as well as everyone else.

That's right, I'm the one who inhales sugar (just kidding), Dana is the one who doesn't. But I appreciate your input Barb, at least you were concerned, and sometimes that in itself means alot to someone (especially me).

Doris: You know I'm just concerned, that's all. Even if it does stop, will you please consider just going to the doctors for a check up?

You are loved and cared for,

Yes I know you are concerned, as I was just trying to be witty. I do plan on making an appointment for the first of the week. I too am concerned, first I think it might be something, then I talk myself out of it. Then my mind goes back and forth, maybe it's something, maybe it not, etc.

But if it is some anxiety that isn't a really bad thing, I guess. See I don't know what the doctor could do? I do have worries as you already know so how can he help? Ok I'm just talking out loud.

Well, the thing is, if you would just go to have the symptoms worked up and maybe they find something and maybe they don't. If they don't, then there's one less stress you have to deal with. You have enough stress.

Your ever caring sister-in-law.

love ya

Doris: My mind is a back-and-forther kinda mind too. Keeps me up at night when I can't turn it off.

Is Alexis doing okay. Has anything been decided for her surgery or not surgery. I care.

Giant Redhead hug to you
