A pastor was browsing around in an antique store and noticed an old light up sign that said, "Open." He inquired and was told it is $100. He told the dealer he didn't have that much. They continue to converse and after a while the dealer just up and gave him the sign.
The pastor gots home and suddenly it dawned on him: He had been praying for a "sign" concerning whether or not to start a new Saturday evening contemporary service. A very literal answer to prayer!
Not an urban legend: This happened to my mom's pastor. He told the story and showed the congregation the sign. It's a Wesleyan new start church.
[Hey, William Hunter--the church in question is renting and worshiping in the former Alpena Nazarene building.)
