My former boss works at Vanderbilt Medical Center and sent me this link. This is about a study they did at Vanderbilt where fruit and vegteble juices can help prevent dementia and alzheimers.

If putting negative things into our bodies can cause harm and disease - it makes logical sense that putting good things into our bodies can prevent and heal.

Great post, Marsha -thanks for posting.

Research has proved that Blueberries and other dark fruits have an abundance of compounds that help to improve the brain. They have found that brain cells actually can regerate some, which is a very new finding. The moral is eat more fruits, especially dark ones.

THANKS, Marsha, for posting this new research study. It only confirms many others that I have read through the years. What Belinda and Anne said, also, is true! For many years, I have been advocating that people purchase a good juicer and juice fresh fruits and vegetables on a regular basis. From my observation, the people who do that, generally, have better day-to-day health than those who don't and fewer common illnesses such as colds, headaches, etc. The nutrients in the juices feed every cell in the body, not just the brain. It is amazing to see what happens with people who do serious regular juicing.

Several years ago, someone close to me suddenly became ill and was unable to walk or move. Every joint in his body ached severely and he was literally carried by his friends to doctors' offices. Everything for him had to be done by others. He was taken to several leading doctors at a top medical facility in the country and no one there could diagnose his problem. It appeared to be rheumatoid arthritis, but none of the tests confirmed that. One doctor said that it appeared to be some other incurable disease but the tests did not confirm that either. This was a fairly young man and his symptoms had come on suddenly. One day he had been fine; the next day he was bedridden.

Finally, five long months later, the 9th doctor, a family practice physician in the area who had been recommended to him, was able to diagnose the problem by actual tests. He had picked up a parasite that had gone directly into his joints, thus the cause for the pain and immobilization. He said that there was no medicine that would cure the problem; the solution was to 'fast' it out of the body with copious amounts of fresh vegetable and fruit juices. He was to ONLY consume fresh, organic juices for an extended period of time. Almost immediately when he began this regime, he began to feel better, have less pain, and regain some mobility. As time went on, things improved and he, finally, was totally free of any symptoms and felt wonderful. Needless to say, he and his family have made fresh vegetable juicing a regular part of their daily lives; even their children have been raised on the fresh juices and love them.

The green juices can be a bit overwhelming in taste for a person beginning, and combining them with either carrot juice or some apple juice helps to cut the strong taste a bit. One can experiment and get the combinations right for himself. After a short while, most people who continue the practice, come to really enjoy the juices and notice that their bodies actually miss the nutrients when they are unable to get the juices. Purchasing a quality juicer and then using it is one of the best investments one can make in his or her health.

Thanks, again, for posting this link. I have printed it and will be using it as a reference in some future classes.

God's blessings to you,

What does one do when one sees signs of this in someone, but they refuse to even taste the juices that I will make, even if I know they can taste tolerable to them, say, mxied with V-8 or whatever? T'would be sad for someone to get Alzheimer's when unnecessary, because they refuse to try this! Not like it affects only them, but others in the family, as well. :(

GINA, you can't make someone else do juicing, exercises, or any other good health habit. It is a choice and each chooses what he/she will do. Some choose things that are good for them while others don't. Yes, others' choices affect many people who are close to them but you still can't force someone to do something. We can give information that we receive and then it is up to the person to decide what to do with that new knowledge.

Remember, it's all about choice and, hopefully, many will make those choices that lead to better health.

God's blessings to you,

Lifestyle change - - That is the heart of the new thrust for nursing. Preventative care - - 2010...

The number one answer on NCLEX and class is "what are you to teach?". Teaching is being drilled into us - day in and day out.

True, one may not desire to be a student. We can't stop teaching just because some desire to not be students. Just as one can't stop teaching the concepts and principles of Jesus Christ - just because they don't want to listen.

What is interesting to me is that the voice and calling of a nurse is the exact same for that of a preacher/pastor - - Lifestyle change. (edited to add: i can acknowledge that the calling of a nurse in previous decades could have been different from what we are being commissioned to do today. )

For the lack of knowledge the people perish.

As a voice calling in the wilderness - Prepare the way of the Lord.

Christ came and died for our sins AND OUR HEALINGS. Just as His death alone can't save us without lifestyle change- neither can our healings.

May His death not be in vain.

Belinda, I want you to read what I posted above--then go to Wesley and read what I posted there.
Do you think, the strict diet my sister kept her husband on, including fruits and juices for diabetes, may have helped what the doctor thought was Alheimer's? Now the doctor says that he does not have diabetes. You may be able to discuss this with a professor.
Like I said yesterday, I believe healing is from God, even if it came through the medical world.

Ann - i have a sick headache today. You are asking me something that would cause me to have to think deeply and ponder. Why? Because, i am not sure that i can answer your question. i want to be able to think before i just quip off an answer.

Please, don't be offended if it takes me a while to get to you. i am not ignoring your question. i just desire to give it the attention it warrants.

What hat am i wearing?

As a nurse, my hat is to educate.

As a nurse, my hat is to aid in comfort.

As a nurse, my hat is to follow the instructions of the physician.

It is the physician's hat to assess if any given treatment is productive.

i appreciate your question but i feel it is outside my realm of ability to answer.

Have a wonderful day. *hugs*
