I posted a question about using a DVD clip as part of our Power Point presentation for worship and no one has responded. 17 have read my post, but no one has given me an answer.

Maybe I should have asked it here???? Maybe it is just not possible to do?????

Anyway, please look at the technical board and if you know the answer I would appreciate your help.

Hi Barb,
Well it is not easily explained and maybe that is why you didn't get a response right away. You see many Nazarene churches because of cost try to get away with doing things the hard way. We are on a limited budget as well for projection needs so I can only explain how we do things. We use the dvd (drive) player in the computer to project things like mission videos, etc. The computer uses the windows player program that is installed in the computer to display the picture. Because we do not have a "switcher/scaler" (piece of electronic equipment very much needed to do things correctly) we have a special setup. We use the computer as one monitor and the screen as the other monitor. So we can make changes without the congregation seeing what is taking place on screen. You can set up windows to display this way with two monitors and many churches do not know you can display this way with only one computer monitor. We drag the video player from one screen to the other (congregation) screen to display our dvd. Press play on the player and "esc" to change back.
Also your computer will play various video files (ex. avi, mpeg-1, mov, wmv) but some require a different player in order to display them.
You cannot insert a dvd movie into PowerPoint without a separate program which must be purchased that I am aware of.

Hope this explains and maybe some others can explain more to you. Here is a snippet I copied from a web site that explains a switcher/scaler that many church neglect to install when purchasing a video projection system. It greatly makes things much easier and you can display any media with the right equipment on screen with one of these. See below.

Switcher/Scaler:

A switcher/scaler simplifies your system immensely. It has two jobs: It switches and it scales. It takes all of your sources and scales it up to computer resolution. With this handy dandy box you only have to run one cable to your projector and it gives you the ability to switch between sources (computer, dvd, etc.) seamlessly. From running cables for install to running the presentation for a service, a switcher/scaler makes each system the ultimate in volunteer friendly multimedia systems.

I would have responded if I had information. I feel a bit illiterate.

Here is a link to the program that is an add-on to PowerPoint for displaying video. As you can see, it does cost a pretty penny for just adding video to PowerPoint so it would be best to record the bit of video you need on a dvd or file and then slip that disc into the computer drive to play. Also you should be aware that some video is copyright.

I have used Microsoft Windows Movie Maker to add video to still photo, also to add a sound track to still photo presentation. Comes with Windows XP.
