I'm sure everyone has read about the e-coli outbreak in bagged spinach.
I'm not overly found of spinach salad although I have had a spinach salad with a raspberry vinegerette dressing that is very good.
I actually prefer iceberg lettuce for a salad. I had a delicious southwest salad in New Mexico a few years ago that had whole kernel corn in it and a southwestern ranch dressing. It was really good.

Well, this here spinach fanatic felt soooooo bad hearing this. When are they going to tell us it's OK? :( :( :(
Ma knows I am, too, so when she heard it on the radio I'd not yet heard it ... she made sure she told me right away, before I might be going out to buy yet more spinach. It's a real bummer.
Thanks for the notice, Marsha, in case we'd/someone had not yet heard it via radio/whatever. You may have saved someone from a bad case of you-know-what,** or worse. ;)
**(sometimes referred to as "green apple quickstep," in this case "spinach quickstep")

Just realized that this spinach thread was on the women's board, and not the regular discussion board. Didn't realize that even when I posted before, since I pulled up posts via "New" and not forum by forum. Interesting ... does it have to do with thinking men might not even be interested in eating spinach ... or may only eat it if a woman happens to cook it, make spinach salad, or whatever? ;)
Anyway, heard the news on TV now ... they said they're wondering about some spinach fields in Salinas, CA ... where water with sewage/feces in it may have overrun into the spinach fields. So, they were saying that if there is this E-coli in some bag of spinach, washing it won't help, because it would have gotten in there via the root system, and be embedded right in the spinach! MAD! SAD! When will we be given the spinach-OK? Bummer!
Whatever, I went to the refrigerator where I had half a bag left yet ... haven't eaten it as frequently as I used to (which was everyday when making juice everyday before moving here). Few days ago, made a salad ... the next day, did run to the restroom a bit often ... but I'd also eaten too much of that dark chocolate the day before, since I'd been leaving it alone for awhile and sort of "binged," perhaps :o ... so, who knows which it was.
But after hearing the news, I took the bag out of the fridge to toss, first checking the address on the bag. Could hardly believe I'd picked one from that very city ... it said, "Salinas, CA" on the bag. Oh, well .................
WHAT GREENS CAN I EAT NOW while waiting for the spinach OK????? :(

Yes, while it hasn't been good for me the juicing being picked at here, this month or so, guess having gotten out of the habit -- until I said it could no longer be a negotiable (shouldn't have been before) -- was OK for me. But I still miss it so.
Just tonight now they singled out a certain brand. Doggone if it's not the organic stuff by Earthbound that I've bought several #-size things of when it was on sale here or there, because I've actually gotten the non-organic before that smelled and tasted like chemical fertilizer smells when you're in a store where they carry it ... a nasty smell/taste.
This whole thing is sad ... a bummer ... especially for those who have gotten really ill or died from it. If the chemical stuff is not good ... and the organic has the possibility of E-coli, since we now hear they sometimes have used cow manure ... what kind do we eat? As asked earlier ... what greens now, eh?
i sure do enjoy spinach - and i am sure glad the Lord has had me too busy to make my usual salad.
