I know that many comedians joke about the fact that women have better memories then men. Perhaps this is a stereotype, but I know that it holds true in my house. When it comes to birthdays and special occasions and preferences of my family, this is a good thing. But there is a "downside" to having a good memory.
One of the things I struggle with is remembering vs. keeping a record.
If Carl challenges me about something I have done (or not done) my mind automatically zips into a mental filing cabinet and cross references to a time when he did or did not do the same.
This isn't deliberate. It's just the way my mind works. I see parallels and similiarities and connections. Choosing not to use these against Carl has become an ongoing spiritual discipline for me.
I don't want to have a poor memory. I like being able to remember details of things that happened in the past. My past has created who I am today.
Do others have similiar problems?

I remember wierd moments..i have not total recall now of some of them
OK here goes
I remember Daddy taking my sister Donna and I to a grand movie theatre downtown New Orleans to see the movie Cinderella..i was about age six
I remember eating watermelon, laying on our tummy, and having a seed spitting contest. This was in the summer in the park in New Orleans. I was about 6 years old.
I remember peeking under a partioned curtain in the corner of a dorm room of the Catholic boarding School where Donna and I lived in New Orleans. I wanted to see the nun without the black habit on..to see if she had hair! I was about six years old
I remember when the tide would go out in New Orleans..at Lake Ponchartrain
and we would pick up the crabs left behind on the steps that led down into the lake
I remember watching school baseball games, when in highschool, sitting atop my Dad's pickup truck. The ball fields were located where the Dallas Cowboy Texas Stadium is now located.
I remember shaving my stepbrother Lucky's leg (one leg) as he was sound asleep outside by our backyard swimming pool. He woke up and i was not able to shave the other leg..!!
I remember when Dave McClung let me use his car, to drive to visit my parents who lived 500 miles away in Corpus Chrisit, Texas when we
were in college..i remember Dave, leaning on the door of the driver side and purtin' near praying over the car before i left Bethany!!
I remember walking along side one of the corpsmen when i was in vietnam..and trying how to tell him with out embarrassing him,
that his zipper needed zipping
I remember when my duffel bag fell off of a truck load of duffel bags at a recieving area just as we entered Vietnam, and came open..with some of my undies falling out..and all of these guy gender eyes turning to look at me
i remember traveling on the German airlines Luftannsa, with Shannon and Kris (2-4) putting the carry on luggage over head, noting every one looking at me..as MY zipper needed zipping!
I remember Shannon when she was a little girl, picking flowers out of a someones yard and bringing them to me..she was so proud!
I remember the special day Shannon and i shared shopping for her wedding dress, watching my daughter standing in the huge mirror at the Bridal Shope, thinking that my little girl was all grown up.
I remember the first time I met Tom..i thought "Shannon will marry him"
had no reason to feel this way as Shannon did not date at all in college, except that God just dropped this "special message" in my heart
I remember Tom showing me the ring he was going to give Shannon
do you remember the first time you held your newborn baby?? The doctor laid Kris on my chest and wrapped us both up in warmed covers..Shannon was wisked away to be examined by the peditrician, as she was a difficult delivery
I remember chasing my OB doctor out of the labor room, telling him to stop talking to my husband..as John was my coach and my doctor was distracting him with talks of hunting quail an fishing stories
I remember Kris burying our dog in the back yard..and his prayer over this solemn occassion
and i rememer when Jesus forgave me of my sins and made me a new creation in Him! i was 12 years old..Donna was 13 we were both changed for life
i also forget to remember many events..those that bring sadness
God is good to allow me to revisit the memories that bring a smile or a warm feeling..and almost erase many of the times that caused pain
Resurrect and share some of your memories

Judy,
The question is...did you remember to take your keys out of the car before you locked the door? LOL Sorry...I couldn't resist! ha ha
Those are GREAT memories.

Would you believe that when we were in college, the cars did not lock automatically! So there was not the incessant problem of locked car doors that plauges me today. However, you know me too well ! a simple coat hanger quickly opened the door the one time i did lock Dave's car with the keys in it.

You and Dana are from the same cloth!! and you two are related only through marrriage?? If Dana did not ask this question, she surely thought about it
When i was a little girl, the Nuns all wore the long black Habit, hiding all of their body except their face and hands. Now as a curious child would you also not have wondered if they were like the rest of us?? Perhaps not to the extent to try and see them undressed. This must have been my sister's idea!! LOL
Sharing this bit of curiousity hopefully does not slight Barbara Phillips our naznetter who used to be a Nun.
I have the highest respect for Women of the Cloth
we were all young once and blissfully naive' and free from cares and woes of life that tangle our impulsive natures and require we all grow up and act 24/7 the adults our children have come to expect of us.
The photo below, i snapped at the Billy Graham Crusade a few yrs ago
answers the Nun question
The second photo reveals a deficit i really need to address!! Most likely, as age steals agility, climbing out of the trunk to retreive keys will present a greater challenge.
The first photo is of myself and Lucky.the brother that survived me and my teen age prank with shaving his leg!
Jump in and dare to share memories of your times as a child or as a care free young adult

I remember very clearly meeting Donna in the hall of our dorm and Donna talking to herself. I remember asking her what she was saying and her telling me her concerns about you. I don't remember the concerns! :) But, she did worry about you and she wasn't that much older than you.

Judy -- I DID think about that question -- so, did she have hair? HA HA Doris and I are definitely related -- but only by marriage!! HA HA
HOWEVER, the one that got me completely laughing out loud was the first quote about Dave lending you his car.....Of course he prayed over that decision and over his car -- HE KNOWS YOU VERY WELL, JUDY!!! HA HA HA HA
You always make me smile, girl.

Hi Carolyn
My sister always worried about me..we were so different. She was restrained and i needed restraining!
Daddy always told her.."Now watch over your sister Donna" and she took him
quite seriously. So she was my sister and my best friend and a surrogate mother at times
Here is something special for you today from this old friend
