So I recently watched this movie "Lord Save us (from your followers)" and I suppose this thread could be in the movie review section, however the movie frames what has been at the center of a divided conversation here on naznet in regard to politics and hot button issues.

Great interviews from Tony Campolo and others. I thought one of his quotes in the movie was very compelling: "The church is a whore, but she is also my mother" - he goes on to explain what he means by that.

The movie really puts much of the current events back and forth that I have observed and been a part of on naznet in a good perspective.

Very good documentary I would recommend for everyone here on NazNet . For those that have netflix you can also watch it instantly by streaming it on your computer there (or through a Roku or Wii).
Here is where them movie can be found on netflix (http://www.netflix.com/WiMovie/Lord_Save_Us_from_Your_Followers/70132263?strackid=53600b11596116c6_0_srl&strkid=711797357_0_0&trkid=438381).

I'm glad to see a review here. I'll see it when I get the chance - I do think it could be moved to the Movie Review Forum.

Just finished watching this and was blow away.

Blown away by the simple humility of Dan Merchant. Blown away by the awful truths. Blown away by the conviction I felt. I recommend it to every believer...no, strike that...every church-goer.

I enjoyed this movie. I was especially moved and challenged by the confessional booth scenes.

yah, i think we know. i think merchant does a good job of pointing out flaws without beating down the bride of christ or just coming off as angry or vengeful but rather humble and heartbroken.(at least in the book which i read)

I watched it tonight - free on Hulu. http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.hulu.com%2Fwatch%2F177536 %2Flord-save-us-from-your-followers&h=19ccf

I thought it was well done, open, engaging, and full of love and grace.

Good movie, I watched today and it was great to see some familiar faces. I'm friends with Tony the beat poet. Also a lot of familiar landmarks since it was filmed here in Portland, OR. I thought the emphasis on what Christians are doing right was tremendous. It's easy to overlook the good that is being done when critiquing the bad. But I thought the movie portrayed the compassionate side of Christianity very well.

My wife and I watched it together tonight on hulu. Excellent movie, he really reinforces our call too love and humility, and he manages to do so without overt criticism or guilt peddling.

I'm not normally a fan of Tony Campolo, yet the segments that he shared from his interview with him were very good.

The Biloxi, MS segment was incrdibly touching.

I was lucky enough to sit down and have a personal conversation with Tony Campolo last year. I found him to be very warm and open to other points of view. I am not a red letter Christian because I think the campaign pits one portion of scripture against others. I also think it is unhelpful to suggest that in being a red letter Christian we are somehow more likely to live a holy life. To me it leads to an attitude of superiority or a spiritually elitist point of view.

I agree with your assesment of red letter Christianity, although I should add that while it does lead to superiority it does not always produce that result. I know a few that I would consider to be of the red letter persuasion who are also genuinely humble people. It is good to hear that Tony is open to other viewpoints, the excerpts of him in this movie show him favorably in my opinion, I was touched by what he had to say.

Most of my issue with the red letter view lies within the quadrilateral. If I am to read Jesus words and then apply tradition as a lense to see how others read his words I must consider how the New Testament authors read him. Especially in light that they also had personal contact with him. This takes me away from the red letter viewpoint. JMHO

Finally watched this. I appreciated the effort to critique and also affirm.

The Confession Booth portion is challenging.
