As most of you probably know, our daughter Marjo lives with her friend Jeroen in Rotterdam. Today, we were there to celebrate her 21st birthday that actually was on the 23rd of September, but since that is also my sister's birthday, they always try to arrange something.

Anyway, with about 20 people gathered, all family, including my mother, Jeroen stood up and officially asked me for my daughter's hand! Well, what do you say when you get asked that question?
I said I would agree, if she herself did so as well. She did, with some tears, so now they are planning to get married.

Next interesting thing. Marjo had wanted to marry for some time and a couple of months ago she had asked Hannie AND ME to join her in buying a wedding dress when that day would come! She wanted me with her because she said I have good taste. I have to admit, I feel flattered. I don't think too many dads get to accompany their daughters in buying a wedding dress!

Hans,

I know what you mean about being asked to participate in the wedding dress selection. My daughter (who lives with her mother for most of the year) asked me if I'd help her pick out her prom dress.

As a Dad, and especially as an absentee Dad (not by my choice), that was WAY COOL!

Congrats to the in-laws to be.

Grace,

Bruce
