An earthquake hit Salt Lake City on Saturday when the 4 point underdog BSU Broncos beat the favored University of Utah 38-3 and rose to # 20 or 21 in the two major polls. They are now the top non BCS unbeaten team to vie for an at large bowl bid since Texas Christian lost on Thursday night.

Gronco?
Any chance they'll ever get rid of that stupid blue football field?
Do they still ever refer to the MPC Bowl as the Humanitarian Bowl? I thought that was really ironic, that a bowl game played in December in Boise, ID was called the Humanitarian Bowl. Nobody with a drop of humanitarian blood would ask college kids from Southern Miss, Louisville, Clemson, Louisiana Tech to come to Idaho in late December. :)

See edit correction on spelling.
The Humanitarian Bowl was an outgrowth of the Humanitarian Hall of Fame started by Nazarene Myron Finkbeiner, an alum of Northwest Nazarene University. He was tired of hearing and reading about all of the professional athletes who were making bad choices and wanted the world to know about the athletes that do well for their communities, sports and themselves by living exemplerary lives. The connection with the Bowl game was meant to be a fund raiser for the Humanitarian Hall of Fame and had the support of many Nazarenes in the area. It was also meant to publicize the fact that the Hall was located here.
Re: the weather and climate here in Boise. Most of the games have been played in 50 degree weather. Here in Boise there are winters that we have very little snow sometimes as little as a cumulative inch all winter meaning a bare skiff from 3 AM-5 AM in the morning and it is melted by 9 AM. As for the Blue turf that is a matter of pride for its uniqueness. How much it effects visiting players is hard to tell. I have heard about complaints before the Southern participants arrive but once they get here they are pleased with their welcome and are surprised by the warmer than expected temperatures.
Just not enough Geography taught in our schools. When I moved from Moscow, ID to Oklahoma City to teach at Bethany I found students who really thought that Idaho had 3 feet of snow on the level from October 1 to May ! and that the temperatures never got above 0 during that time span.
When in fact that doesn't even happen at Stanley, ID which oftens vies for the coldest place in the nation with International Falls, MN or West Yellowstone, MT.
Bruce you need to come to Boise and take the Community Education course in Geography I will be offering starting in January. Come early so you can attend the former Humanitarian Bowl game. That would be a great time for you to arrive.
We actually have alot of retirees from California and points south who come here because of the mild winter.
Thanks for the opportunity to spread some geographical information about IDAHO.

Jim,
My comment was not entirely uninformed, though it was tongue in cheek. I lived in Mountain Home for a year, used to visit friends in Idaho Falls, and have driven through Idaho twice in December. First time I got into whiteout blizzard conditions going through Monida Pass; second time, same thing in Independence Pass (which may actually be in Washington, I'm not sure). You know what they say about three strikes and you're out. There won't be a third winter trip.
I know that Idaho is not Siberia. But I also know that it's not someplace I care to spend my last quarter century or so on this earth. It is far too remote. Closest hockey team is Calgary; closest baseball, NFL franchise are Seattle; closest NBA franchise is Salt Lake City. And none of those is what you'd call an "easy drive" from anywhere in Idaho.
To each his own, I guess. I'm going to Pennsylvania.

Bruce,
Thank you for your reply to Jim. I would be more than happy to see the growth of this area slow down. Maybe we can encourage them to move on to Pennsylvania.
Mountain Home is not the country club of Idaho. You must have been in the Air Force.
