PIG ROAST lately? Saturday it was supposed to rain all day and we had plans to go to a pig roast. It was raining when we left home but it stopped raining by the time we were out of Columbus. We drove about 1 1/2 hours to the Stillwater River north of Dayton, near Ludlow Falls, OH. There were white fluffy clouds in the sky and the sun was shinning.

The pig had been roasting since 4 AM. We sat around a campfire and talked waiting for the main attraction to be ready to eat. About 100 people came. Finally around 5 PM the pig was ready. We all brought a dish of food to go along with the pig. We were all very hungry by the time the pig decided to be ready.

By the time we had eaten we were all "stuffed pigs." There were a few sprinkles of rain about the time we began to eat but they didn't last long.

We left a little after 6 PM so that Bob could get home in time to watch THE OSU BUCKEYES beat the Iowa Hawkeyes, and they DID!! There were still fluffy white clouds in the sky when we left the river. As we approached Columbus we ran into rain and very dark clouds.

We were so happy the weatherman did not know what he was talking about. We had a good day.

Our church has one every year. I've never attended it. I can't stomach the thought of it, sorry!!

Dana, are you a vegetarian? If not, the meat you eat has to be killed and cooked somehow. I know, looking at the whole hog is not appetizing to some people. Actually while the hog was roasting, the cooker was closed so you wouldn't have had to look at it at all.

We enjoyed the day visiting with relatives and meeting new friends. It was a lovely fall day and great to be out in the slightly crisp air. I love fall. Don't you miss it? I know what that Arizona weather is like. I have two sisters and some cousins that live in the Phoenix area and I have been there at all times of the year - hot summer, hot fall, cool winter, and lovely spring. Ha.

That pig is fully committed to that meal. Got to admire the dedication.

Yes I've been to two of them. The first one was in Michigan at our church's Sunday School picnic. The pic was roasted all night, after the pastor dropped it in the dirt, he picked it up, put it back on the spit, and let someone else take their turn. Gallons and gallons of barbeque sauce was put into the belly of that pig. I could not eat it..NASTY!
The 2nd time was here at our current pastorate. Again it was roasted all night, but was cleaner, and I still could not eat it. I can't eat meat when it still looks the animal it came from. If a fish looks like a fish on my plate, I cannot eat it. EWWWW!

How about this? Which would you prefer? Kissing the pig or eating the pig at a pig roast?
