i have recieved now three times in my e mail with the
warning not to delete as AOL is tracking

SO??

this in and of itself led me to learn if this is a hoax

I wouldn't mind 32 cents for every hoax I've received. What bothers me is when people forward emails without even checking them out.

No company is going to donate money per emails forwarded. If they wish to donate, then they'll donate.
While theoretically it's possible to track emails it would be totally impractical. AOL can certainly track emails their customers send. But there are thousands of ISPs (Internet Service Providers) out there. AOL does not have access to the records of other companies. And in the interest of customer privacy, ISPs won't provide such information to third parties without permission from each customer or maybe a subpoena. Even if they would provide information to a competitor, you can bet they would charge a stiff fee. To carry out such a scheme would cost AOL many times the amount they donated. Not to mention the staff and resources it would take to process all that data.
