Does anyone here know how to find out for sure what the dealer pays for a new auto?
Is there a website with such info?
Some say that when you're armed with that info, you can bargain UP from there rather than DOWN from the sticker price.
Thanx

From when we bought a car in the US, back in 1995 and 1999 I was told that it depends on how many cars the dealership sells in a year, as to how much discount they get on the price the dealership themselves pay for the cars. I was also told that they get free cars based on the previous years sales, and at the end of the year (± August - September) they will be willing to let the last cars they have go for a VERY good price, to be able to get more free cars the next year. When we bought our VW Golf in '95 we managed to knock off ±$4000 of the selling price. At this time of the year, it's a bit more difficult to get the "uber deals" - the dealers aren't pushed that much to sell the cars yet...
Hope I'm clear enough in my explination (LOL)

Nelson, we found this information at the library when we bought our car, but I'm sure it must be on line somewhere (our car is ancient).
Now, having said that, the dealership also gets discounts or rebates for selling so many cars, also discounts for certain options, and other rebates that I can't remember right now. So, the price that is published can go down further depending on these variables.
And yes, it really did help us when we bought our car to have this information. We had one of those buyers working on finding our car out of state, and in the meantime, we were able to get a better deal on our own than he was able to offer us. So, we didn't even use the buyer after all.
It also helps to shop at the end of the month. We were able to get our car with a $23000.00 sticker price down to 18000.00. (That was 14 years ago -- ouch!! As Joel said one time, we keep our cars until they are old enough to VOTE!! LOL). That has been one great car -- I will keep it as long as it has tires to run on!! LOL

You can print out an invoice showing what dealers pay for each auto.
Plus , you know what each add on cost.
