Hey all-

This is an old video (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3722537274110803304&q=jim+wallis&hl=en), and if it has already been posted before, I apologize.

But this is a decent conversation at Point Loma with Dean Nelson and Jim & Joy Carol Wallis. It is almost a half-hour long, but worth the watch. Despite my disappointment with the interplay between Wallis and Tony Perkins in the CBS Evening News video that I posted last week (http://www.naznet.com/community/showthread.php?t=7350&highlight=perkins) (some of which you can feel in this video as well), I greatly appreciate Jim Wallis and what he is doing.

Topics covered in this video include women as clergy (Joy Carol Wallis was instrumental in paving the way for female ordination in the Church of England) and faith in politics (Jim Wallis is the author of God's Politics: Why the Right Gets It Wrong and the Left Doesn't Get It).

I have the privilege this semester of being a part of Dean Nelson's Intro to Journalism class and am thoroughly enjoying it. He has some impeccable credentials as well as a breadth of experience within writing and journalism.

As a Point Loma student, each year it always is a big deal when the Writer's Symposium takes place on campus each February. Last spring, we hosted Gary Hart, Barbara Brown Taylor (who was probably my favorite chapel speaker to date) as well as Donald Miller, author of Blue Like Jazz, who also spoke in chapel while he was on campus. I'm excited to hear about author Anne Lamott's scheduled appearance as well as she joins the guest list for the 2006 Writer's Symposium.

I am proud of Point Loma and am grateful for the opportunities it gives to its students.

Enjoy the evening!

The church gives the opportunity to say and do the truth. Doing such may not land the largest podium or the front page positions, but there is a reward far more satisfying. There are some who stand for what is correct, whether it is in vogue or not. Search until you discover what kind of person that is.

Then be one.
