... and for some reason both times I tried to run/install/open/whatever, it told me Windows could not open this; what would I like to open it with? Hey, I recall it was something that opened all by itself.

Have hunted all over their website, since losing it to this crash, and am wondering if all they have now is ones one must buy, and what I've been DL'ing, thinking it might be the whole program (they were big!), is just some add-on if someone already has it?

Thanks! Hate to have this only have the old Norton on it, outdated at that. You see, to tide me over until AVG could be put back on here, I started the Norton updates 3-4 times, and it quits before it's done updating, everytime.

WEIRD things are occurring suddenly ...................

THANKS again for any help. PLEASE EMAIL LINK to me, if possible. I have to get back to editing, so will just check email, and not here.

Since no one else has replied I'll say that I don't know for sure but keep trying. The problem may be at the other end. I was trying to update Ad-Aware the other day and kept getting an error. I tried again the next day and it worked. Maybe something like that is happening with AVG?

'Know what happened? The regular WWW.avg.com site doesn't have a link to the free one ... not at all. Tho't I'd found it a couple of different times, but then I got so frustrated with them not working, that I finally went to DOGPILE.com. Entered "free AVG anti-virus." The link it led to was not WWW.avg.com, but FREE.avg ..................

Strange, they have a free one, but looked and looked and looked and looked, and tried many, many links from the WWW.avg site; none led to the FREE one. Apparently, if you don't hear about it via word-of-mouth, or perhaps just ask for FREE anti-virus programs in a search engine, you don't find out about the free one from their BUYING website. Oh, well ...............

Thanks, anyway, for letting me know it's not always on this end. This time it was a combo of my not understanding their website, and its not being clear that a couple of links on there didn't actually lead to a free AVG, tho' it said it was for home use, etc.

Now that you mention it, I remember seeing that. Zone Alarm makes their free download kind of hard to find too. I'm glad you got it.
