No discussion here please, just add you name. The idea is to have a place where we can check who we can expect to be there, and make plans to meet!
Hans Deventer, GA delegate, Netherlands District
Heidi Anderson, GA delegate, Washington Pacific District
Martijn van Beveren, NYI delegate, Netherlands District
Peggy Poteet, GA delegate, Oklahoma District

Actually, I am the alternate NYI ministerial delegate from the Rocky Mountain District. So if my good friend and colleague who beat me by one vote two weeks ago at our convention is unable to make it (and he told me that there is a good chance of that happening), I'll be going out.

I have been nominated as a clergy delegate from our district, but that is as far as it will go. It's reasonable that the folks who attend and vote at District Assembly vote for who they know for such positions, and I've only been on the district for a decade - and we have highly qualified clergy who are better known.
Besides, if I was elected, I would be one of those "White, male, USA, clergy" delegates whom I'm always criticizing for not giving up any of their power. Couldn't have that now, could we. :smilies0717:

Well, I was nominated to be an NYI delegate, but since we'll be leaving the district before Assembly, that's not going to happen. I'd still like to be there, but it will be as a spectator, if it happens.

With ministry transition occurring this coming summer, I won't be on any ballot as a possible delegate. I have thoroughly enjoyed serving as a District NYI President, and serving in that capacity allowed me to attend GA '09 in Orlando. I will be attending GA '13 as either a spectator or volunteer. While I have not served on the Indianapolis District during a GA, I've heard that it is very taxing on the district people and resources.
I'm looking forward to hopefully meeting many of the fine NazNet folks.

So what's your husband's new name? I didn't know they handled that sort of thing at District Ass'y. I've kind of been looking for a new name ...
Oh, I guess I read that wrong. It's the district that has a new name. My bad.
So does this mean we'll be seeing you around NazNet more frequently in preparation for the big gathering?

Jim Franklin
May 21st, 2012, 11:36 AM
At our recent District Assembly, Jim Franklin, was elected to be a delegate to the NMI Convention, but it was not me. There is another man on our district who goes by that name who is a retired elder serving as Associate at Bethel Church of the Nazarene in Nampa. He was a high school senior at Moscow, ID when I was in my Masters program at the University of Idaho there. So there I was at 31 already "Jim Franklin, the Elder." Since later he went into the pastoral ministry and was ordained as an Elder, that makes this old, old geezer older than the Elder. Look him up when you get there and greet him on my behalf.

The Rocky Mountain District ministerial delegate to the Global NYI Convention has just accepted a position on another district, so it looks like I will, in fact, be going out in his place as the alternate. Assuming we find the money for it. Our district NYI coffers are empty after paying for our camp this summer. So if I do end up making it out, I won't be able to afford to stay much past the conclusion of the NYI Convention.

Lucas, you might consider reserving your room for additional nights now because they might not be available when you go to add them later. You can drop the nights off at a later date but you may not be able to add them.

We'll likely be rv-ing -- I contacted Indy district as was disappointed to learn that a couple of RV groups who are coming in to do some work projects have been allowed to book all the sites. Right now I'm looking into different RV parks but I was looking forward to staying at Camby - I think it was 8 years ago (might have been 12) that they offered sites at Camby and even provided a shuttle back and forth to the Convention Center.
Right now it looks as if we'll be staying 20 miles out and commuting.

Do you mean they booked ALL the sites? That's what I'm getting from the rest of your message. When I read this first part, I couldn't figure out why you didn't want them staying in the RV park with you. :)

I seem to do that a lot these days...seriously, it concerns me a bit because I do it so much.

I did a curiosity check. Right now, outside the convention system, you can get a room at the Hilton for seven nights (6/20-6/27) for $1000. It's about a block further than most of the other big names, but a decent place.
I don't know what the convention rates are or which hotels they will cover, but that's not a terrible price given the location and event.

Most of the convention block hotels range between $169-197 a night (including tax). Indy's sales&lodging tax is the highest in the country, so remember to check to see if the 17% tax is included in your prices! Also, if you're driving, most downtown hotels appear to charge an additional $17-28/night for parking.
In 2005, we stayed quite a ways outside the downtown area... we're going back to the same hotel this time. At about $100/night savings, I don't mind the 6 mile commute.

For what it's worth, I also found a Best Western 20 minutes away for $300 for the week. So there are options.
Does anyone know if David Morris sold his house? That might be another option for someone.

Fortunately for us, the district is paying for our stay, since my wife is a delegate.
Even without that, though, I've loved being able to walk to the convention center during past Indy GA's. Even the year we had to walk a mile or so to get there.
But to each his own! If my choice were between staying at that Best Western or not going to GA at all, I'd rather do the 20-minute drive every day! :)

I've still got a 2 bedroom home sitting 5.1 miles from downtown. It's been listed since the beginning of June, and so far no offers have been made. I'll be meeting in the next week or so with some folks to discuss leasing/renting.
However, as Ryan has suggested, I would have absolutely no problem giving someone the key for the week if that would enable someone to attend GA. It is bare bones at the house, not even a shower curtain, but that could all be worked out.
If you would like to guarantee your spot in Indy, buying the house is also an option.

Well, I have had two relatives offer to let Mindy and I stay with them in Indy next year (probably about a 20 minute drive from the convention center). I don't have any official capacity that I have to be there for but I do plan to come over for at least a couple of days during the convention to catch up with the various old acquaintances that will be there. I might also look into volunteering but haven't decided yet.

I have been to all the GA's since the 60's and a few before that when I was a child. I think my favorite was Miami ('72?). This will be my fourth one as delegate from Metro New York. (I probably will step aside after this one and hopefully let a younger generation make a difference.) My wife and I always enjoy going back to Indiana. I grew up in Fort Wayne and we make a point to do a return visit to that area.
