We enjoyed some Saturday afternoon R&R at the beach today, here are some of the photos I took:
7039
Pelicans flying in formation -- look like WWII bombers!
7040
An oil tanker travels into port. We saw a couple of these giant ships today.
7042
This big fish is called a "drum" and we saw several people catching fish this size.
7043
We walked out to the end of this Jetty (and back of course!) It is about a mile out to the end.
7044
Jackie and I really like the Surfside beach better than we do the beaches at Galveston. We live about 45 minutes from either one.

I saved the best till last. We often see dolphin but I have never, till now, managed to get a picture of them. I am proud of this one!

I love your photos, Scott.
I'm unable to upload photos to NazNet. Could you help me? I've tried disabling the "pop-up" button and that doesn't make a difference. Each time I try to attach photos, there is a little yellow triangle in the lower left-hand corner of the screen that has an exclaimation mark in it and says, "Error on Page."
Do you have any suggestions?

WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL PICTURES.
Scott you all must take more time together and do this more often.!!
The years go by and one thinks,"where did it all go".

I agree! Very nice shot, almost black & white. I like the shot of the Jetty as well.

Like a lot of my best photos, the dolphin shot was only artistic by accident. The sun was shining toward me across the water and that created an unintentional silhouette shot that looks pretty good. It was one of those photographic "moments" with the fisherman and seagulls, etc.
I will take credit for the jetty photo. It really doesn't look that good in real life. I was standing on a deck that has some scraggly palm trees in front of it, so I used them to frame the shot. It made an average snapshot into something more interesting.

You are so right. Jackie loves the beach -- and with it close by we need to make the effort to go more often. Of course, we really don't need the beach -- we have fun going about anywhere together! :)

Since our son and family are with the "other side" for Christmas this year it was just Jackie, my sister, and me for Christmas. It is a beautiful day, so we opened gifts and then drove 30 miles to Galveston to enjoy sun and surf. We took the ferry across and back and were fortunate to see many dolphin. Also, we enjoyed walking the beach. Here are a few Christmas on the Texas Gulf Coast photos. There are several others at: http://picasaweb.google.com/pastorscott.com/Christmas2007

Scott...my dad used to work and sail his shrimp boat..docked at Surfside
i once set up a pop-up tent..in the wrong place, and a couple of friends helped me
relocate it farther down the beach..we did not take the tent down for the mile journey..interesting memory
and great vacation memories with Shanon and Kris and my
sister, who also lived in Surfside. We each enjoyed body-surfing the waves...
course this would have been not in winter and the
water was as warm as a warm bath.
been years since I have been to Surfside, and I have not returned
since Dad died..he had a heart attack.when he was bringing in the
nets after a day shrimping.
Enjoyed your photos

Jackie and I drove down to Surfside and Quintana beaches today - about 45 minutes from home. It's the first time we have been to the beach since Hurricane Ike. We saw lots of "blue tarp" houses and several that are completely gone. Still, it was a beautiful day for picture taking.

I started this thread about Surfside in 2006. Below you'll see a photo I took then and one I took today. It makes the beach damage from the Hurricane easy to see.

Beautiful shots. Thanks for sharing.
I am not a "beach" person, however I think
walking the beach and watching the ocean has a very calming effect.
What a way to get some R&R!

My wife, Jackie, loves walking on the beach. She also talks about the feeling of serenity she finds there. When we moved here over 9 years ago we promised ourselves we would take time to enjoy the beach. However, life presses in and we don't go as often as we originally planned.
Personally, I'm a sucker for the mountains while Jackie really likes the water.

I personally prefer the mountains as well. Maybe it is because I live in the hills. As long as it is pleasant I can enjoy anywhere.
