I took this photo last week on vacation. Does anyone on NazNet know where this is?
The airplane is an SR-71 Blackbird.
It is on display in a museum.
The museum is in the United States.
The site of the museum has a very significant place in the history of the Church of the Nazarene.
Do you know the Nazarene connection?

Kansas Cosmosphere and Discovery center..Hutchinson Ks.
As far as the Nazarene connection...i believe Hutchinson had a Nazarene seminary or school or something WAYYYYYYY back in History? I don't remember details now.
Am I close?
IF I'm not right...IF you like planes and space history you should go there.
That is my hometown and about 45 min from us here in Wichita. They have the Liberty 7...which just finished a tour of the US and will be housed here permenately.
My son is attending the Hutchinson Community college which the discovery center is part of the campus.
IF i'm right OR wrong maybe someone who knows Nazarene History can refresh my memory as to what the History of the Church here in Hutchinson is.
Thanks for sharing Jim! Hope you enjoyed your vacation!

You've got the location right and you are very close on the Nazarene connection.
They also have the actual Apollo 13 command module on display.

Yes that is a very neat place to visit. Before we moved back here...we would visit family about every other year. The boys always wanted to go there when we would come. My brother lives within walking distance...so it went together...visit Uncle Doug and go to the cosmosphere.
Did you take in one of the IMAX theater shows?
As far as the connection to Nazarenes ...i've been racking my brain...I remember something being told to me about ...before Pilot Point TX. Hutchinson was the site of a seminary or school. I can't be more specific as that is as far as my little brain can remember.
If I'd known you were coming...i'd of met you there and showed you where the First Church use to be located and from what i remember, it was the site of the school/seminary! Did you learn more about it while you were here?
What other things did you do while in the area?

The Kansas Cosmosphere is located on the campus of Hutchinson Community College. From 1905 to 1940 the site was the campus of Bresee College. It merged with Bethany Peniel College in Oklahoma to form Bethany Nazarene College, now known as Southern Nazarene University.

I was in the area to visit my son Michael in Wichita and in particular to visit my 10-month old grandson Jacob. While at the Cosmosphere we toured the museum and viewed the Lewis and Clark Imax film.

Next time you are in Wichita...let me know..maybe we can have a Naznet meeting! We moved to Wichita in July...from Mississippi.
I have photos of when they moved in the SR-71. It was brought in to the airport and towed down 11th street to the site...then they built the building around it. It was pretty cool to see. We weren't there but my brother took pics and video. Big deal to see that being towed thru the streets.
I didn't realize the actual land the college sits on was the site of the Nazarene school. See I learned something! I wasn't born till 1960 so as far back as I rememeber its been the community college! Thanks for the history lesson Jim!
