Scenario:
God reveals to you the Thursday after New Year's your best friend is going to become greatly ill and be taken to the hospital, then that same week s/he is going to die.
Is this in line with God's Word?

Does this friend walk with Christ? Do they know for sure they are to be with Christ forever? If not, maybe they need to hear about salvation...
How did God reveal this? And is the way He revealed it to you in line with His characteristics. Has He done it in scripture?

Isaiah 38 says: 1 In those days Hezekiah was sick and near death. And Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, went to him and said to him, “Thus says the LORD: ‘Set your house in order, for you shall die and not live.’”
Looks like the answer can be yes. If not, stone the false prophet. (Deut 18:20)

Well, there are places in God's word where special information is given to prophets to be passed on to others. Some of those messages are of warning of impending doom or pain.
However, when I also consider reason, tradition and experience...I would have to say that such an experience does not really line up with how God normally works in the world today.
That's not to say He wouldn't give this special knowledge to someone, just that I would treat such a "revelation" (if it came to me) with great caution.
But that's just me.

One lesson I have learned is to never limit God as to how He chooses work.

I don't limit God.
But in this case, I would pause for some sort of confirmation, before I told a best friend that she was going to shortly die.
I don't think it seems characteristic of the way God works in the world in this day and age.
