Now that the W2W forum isn't hidden, when I first click on Naznet, those posts show up with all the other new posts. It is easy to reply without noticing it is on the no no board. Sometimes it is hard to resist not replying there.

So, I am going to reply to a topic there, here :basic05 There is a topic going on now on "Homes and Colors." I work for a window company here in Pella :basic03. One of our biggest money makers is window treatments and accessories. You can also get windows with lots of different color cladding on the out side. Of course the same is true for many of our competitors. Styles change and companies that sell windows and other things are always trying to find out what people want and get a head of the competition. So the market is being driven from both ends. You have home owners looking for something new and you have home improvement companies always coming out with something new. So there are a lot more options to choose from than there ever has been before. It's kind of funny. When the economy is slow, our regular windows don't sell as well because new housing starts are down. But our expensive custom products keep selling. It seems like the rich are always rich.

I am remodeling my living room and dinning room right now. I'm pushing my carpentry skills to the limit :basic04. When this house was built in 1911, it had wallpaper on the walls. Then someone put ugly cheap wood paneling on the walls. Then someone else put wall paper over some of that paneling. Then when I bought the house, I painted over some of that wall paper. Then we had the kitchen remodeled 3 years ago. I hired that done. We had the walls and ceiling sheet rocked and the walls are painted a soft pastel color. We got rid of the old painted cupboards and got new oak grained cupboards. Now that I am remodeling the dinning room and living room, I am getting rid of the last of that awful wood paneling and going back to, you guessed it, wall paper. ;)

Speaking of homes and colors, the outside colors change with time too. Before my time when a lot of those grand old 19th century ginger bread houses were built, they were painted many bright colors, or at least the trim was. Then it seemed like everyone started painting their house just plain white. Then gradually people started painting them other colors again but without all the fancy trim of the late 19th century. Now, there still isn't as much fancy trim but people are getting really bold with their colors again. I painted the trim on my house a bright pastel purple, almost pink about 12 years ago. At the time, it was the only house in town like that. Now my house is pretty mild compared to some of the houses in town. I could swear that some people are color blind that buy paint. There are a few houses in town that hurt your eyes to look at.

1000 lashes with a wet noodle if you ever reply on the W2W forum!

LOL

I have seen a house...a large 2-story Victorian house...painted the color of your trim. Makes me sick to drive by it.

'Know how it could happen that you accidentally might post on the w2w forum. When I open "new posts," I go down the line, open those I want to check out in a "new tab," and then read, without going to the top of the page to see where it's even posted. I've, therefore, posted and noticed later that I'd posted on a "no-no" forum, too ... seems I've read somewhere that the teen/youth forum is for them or their leaders only.

Well, there was a topic once that caught my attention, I didn't even realize it was there rather than on the normal forum. So, I wrote, then noticed. Tho't, "Oh, well ...." 'Guess I didn't feel too badly, 'cause I left it there ... years ago I hung out with teens, helped with them, even though I no longer do.

AS FOR YOUR HOUSE ... don't mind the trim at all. There's some old victorian-style home in town here (in the old part) that a friend and I drove by one day. She told me she always thinks of me when she sees it, because it's got 2-3 rather vivid colors, one of them being purple ... she knows my penchant for purple. ;)

Joel: I love doing old houses and have done many in the past.
How about putting some Victorian wood trim on your house. It is just ripe for it.
Also add another color to the purple and white.
The Library has great Victorian examples of homes that you could study.
Do you do your own wallpapering?
We have done a lot of that too.
I would love to come by and help. :)

Joel Merrill, You keep your eyes off the Women's board. You do not need to read what we are talking about. It would probably embarass us if we knew you were peeking. Tom Cook does that, also. Tell him that it is a "NO, NO!"

I'm going to put some broad trim on the inside like what was on it but in a much lighter stain than the original. I'm just using common pine. I can't afford fancy wood or expensive mouldings but I might get some square mouldings for the top corners of the doors and windows. I've never done wall paper before but my son-in-law has and he is going to help me. We are going to paper before I put on any trim so that should be a bit easier and look nicer too. It's funny how these projects go. When I started out, I was just going to replace the windows. There is a lot more I could do if I had the time and the money.

Joel - it will happen. Men will accidentally post there and the sky won't fall.

Where i do appreciate men not purposing to post there, accidentally posting to a post/thread has to be expected from time to time.

i promise - we won't bite.

I posted once on the W2W board. When I first signed up, they probably mistakenly looked at my name and thought I was a woman. I get that alot -- that and being called William -- which I always ignore since William was my uncle, and not my name at all. Billie was my dad, and Billie is my name...but, back to the topic. So, anyway -- I replied to a topic on the W2W forum, and I guess my response was atypical of the "female" opinion. I did not even realize it was a W2W posting. So, anyway, they got that straightened out and the therapy from being exposed is almost complete.

Its really not that bad Joel -- it has helped me get in touch with my feminine side. Just last week I sat and cried, then went shopping. It was kind of exhilarating.....

Of course, I cried about hitting my hand with a hammer and went shopping for computer stuff -- but, hey, I ain't done with therapy yet.....

Oh NO!!! Now that I think about it, I cook, do dishes, laundry and plant flowers. I replace the toilet paper after my wife uses it up. I take care of the cat and I've been in the mood to buy....oh the shame......shoes! :(
This is the first year in my life that I never bought a fishing license and I haven't shot my guns in several years! I bought a new over & under shotgun a year and a half ago and I have never fired it! Now I'm even drinking flavored coffee. Is there any help for me? (Don't worry, I'm definitely not gay)

... what on earth is an "over/under" shotgun? Always tho't -- not that I've ever thought much about guns! -- a shotgun was a shotgun. What do you do "over" with it ... or "under" with it? Hmmmmmm ???

It is a double barreled shotgun. Some double barreled shotguns have the barrels arranged horizontally and are called "side be sides" because each barrel is beside the other. Other double barreled shotguns have the barrels arranged vertically with one barrel above the other. They are called, "over and unders."

Now aren't you glad you asked? :) If you would like, I would love to talk about the advantages and disadvantages of over and unders compared to side by sides. We could also talk about double barrels compared to pumps, automatics and single shot shotguns. If you are still awake I could explain shotgun chokes, gauges, barrel length and shot size selection. I used to reload my own shot shells and I could even get into the individual components that make up a shot shell.

After you are thoroughly trained on shotguns, we could spend even longer on rifle and handgun ballistics and then we could go on to my favorite subject, muzzle loaders and black powder guns. I could even sign you up with the National Rifle Association :basic05

Naznet is so educational. If there is anything you don't know, all you have to do is ask. Who needs Google anyway.

... for the picture, too ... now I can see what you're talking about. 'Guess I have seen barrels "side-by-side," so makes sense. 'Just hadn't -- as I said -- tho't about guns much. It just sounded like such a strange name, in spite of that. ;)
