I received an email at KJIC radio from a person who has listened to the station in the country of Seychelles. I thought I was fairly good on world geography, but this was a new country for me: http://www.seychelles.com/en/home/index.php

I'm pretty sure we have missionaries in the Seychelles. It is an island nation of the east coast of southern Africa. I think it is in the same region as Madagascar. If my memory serves me they were uninabited when first discovered.

Yep, off the coast of Southern Africa. Nice retreat for a vacation.

Nope, never heard of it. How cool to receive email from someone that remote from you.

Thanks for mentioning it. How many times do you suppose we'll notice references to Seychelles now in other places? Maybe we can report back.

:)

Marsha, I didn't give the whole story but it is kind of fun to share just a bit more. The email came from a retired US Ambassador. He served in Europe a number of years ago. He was actually in Seychelles recently visiting another Ambassador-type. He wrote to say he listens to KJIC via the internet quite often and from many different countries. On the website we have a list of "listening countries" and there is a note that encourages people who listen but don't see the country listed to let us know so we can add to the list.

So, I not only learned about a new country but got a personal email from a U.S. Ambassador (retired though he may be). That was another first for me!
