The rumor that I was kidnapped isn't true. I have just been gone for a few days. I drove to Big Bend National Park in south Texas. Although I have lived most of my adult life in Texas, I had never been to the Big Bend area other than to fly over.

I have to admit that Big Bend is different from any other National Park I have visited. Most of the park is simply desert. In the center of the park is "The Basin" -- an area surrounded by mountains. It is the best area for hiking.

The two main attractions are the Basin and the Rio Grande River.

I climbed the tallest mountain in the park. It was about equal to Mt. St. Helens, but the trail is better.

Here are some pictures I took:

EEEEWWW that tarantula!!!!!!!!!!!!

brings back fond memories of child hood days and
West Texas summers..
the boys and tomboys (me) in the
neighborhood would flush them out of their holes
with a water hose and then stab them with
a stick as they came out!
then..they would take a ride on the end of
the stick around the yard

this is SO not me today

guess we all change a bit when the dust settles
and we are all grown up

Thanks for the photos Dave.. Were I near there
I would have liked to
explore the Ranger guided tours of the caves south
of Carlsbad

reports are, these caves are gorgeous..much like
Carlsbad was 30 years ago..before hairspray, flash
cameras and people touching the stalactites dulled
their vibrant colors

Have a good time with Linda's family and looking
forward to visiting with you two next week end

I'm glad you're still among us :basic01

And I like the setting sun on that mountain, Dave. Nice shot!

BTW, I see the spider is a 200mm. Do you have your VR lens? Do you like it?

Yes. I have been using the VR lens for about a month. I love it. In fact, I have not been using anything else. It was worth the long wait.
