I found Vegemite a while back at an English tea shop in Leavenworth, KS. At tonight's Snackleship after church, I prevailed upon associate pastor Jeff Harmon to sample it on a cracker. **LOL** I almost didn't press the shutter in time.

Actually, it wasn't all that bad.

Cute, Kathy! A rather typical response to vege-well-I-dunno, don't you think, from some of the other responses we've seen around here? HA! :basic05

Edited to add: what does your pastor Harmon think about his first NazNet picture being a vege-whatever picture? hee-hee ;)

*Grins big*

i have many fond memories of first timers. Though i must admit that one's response made me make a quick dash to the restroom. It was so hysterical, i thought i would die.

Every NazNet needs to sample the site's renouned delicacy. :fav18 :basic05

**laughs** -- no-- **heehaws**

Sunday night he made a frantic dash for the kitchen sink to spit and swish and spit and swish.

Then he made a bee-line for the soft drinks because the after-taste started catching up with him.

Oh, it was a precious sight!

Oh to be a witness of such a wonderful reaction.
Years ago, 93 general assembly in Indianapolis, we were manning an "Australian booth". We did of course have vegemite and crackers on hand. Many times Australians will give vegemite to unsuspecting foreigners as a thick spread precisely to watch the reaction. At GA we were all on our best behaviour and doing our best to provide the substance in amounts that would optimize the possibility of a positive response. There were some who liked it and some who didn’t but the most precious response came from an elderly saint of the church. She was absolutely everything you picture when thinking of an elderly women that spent her life around the church, dignified, gracious, well dressed, refined and charming. She took a cracker, delicately poised between thumb and index finger, she lifted it to her mouth with a smile. She took a small bite and chewed it thoroughly. He face turned a wonderful shade of pail, she gagged and coughed and thrust her mouth open revealing as yet unswallowed but thoroughly masticated cracker. She spat the remains into her hand and spun in circles, like a top, looking for somewhere she could dump the remains. She retired from the room in a rapid motion - coughing, moaning and complaining as she went. It was a wonderful day for cross cultural liaisons. Such moments are priceless and deserve to be preserved on film for future posterity.

Go to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KByOTj3CaL0 to view a video of me enjoying Vegemite straight from the jar. It's delicious that way, and much quicker and simpler than spreading it on toast or a cracker, plus it's low fat when you don't add the butter.

Brad

P.S. I just wanna be a blessing.

P.P.S. The gasp you'll hear near the beginning of the video is a native Australian child who apparently believes in moderation when it comes to Vegemite. The spontaneously disrespectful comment you'll hear at the end is my impudent but very clever 15-year-old son who was videoing the event for me.

P.P.P.S. Wow! My demonstration may have been unnecessary. There are LOTS of videos on YouTube of people (and animals) trying Vegemite! Just go to www.youtube.com (http://www.youtube.com), type Vegemite in the search box and see what you get. I had no idea I was following such a well-blazed trail.

Okay, so I've tried both grocery stores here in Hingham, MA. One said that they used to have it but don't carry it any more. I'll keep looking.
