View Full Version : Do you ever get overwhelmed?

I must admit, there are times when I get overwhelmed with the number of day to day details that fall into my lap.
Don't get me wrong. I love my life. But it's all the regular maintenance that keeps a family and home ticking along that usually end up in my "to do" column.
Is this a woman's thing? Do any of you sometimes wonder what would happen if you were severely incapacitated for a period of time.
I picture my husband wandering the house, no TV cuz he didn't pay the bill, no teabags to make tea, wondering why there is no toilet paper and why everything looks so grubby :-)
I always tell my family that when it comes to Mother's Day and my birthday, I don't care if I don't receive any gifts.
What I love is that on those two days, I can give myself permission not to place any expectations on myself.

Its interesting that you posted this because right now I am in a place where I am overwhelmed. But, I think that we all get overwhelmed with the everyday pressures of life.

Yes, I'm fighting the tendency to feel overwhelmed right now. I don't like feeling that way, and I purposely take time out for myself no matter what else has to be done. I refuse to get that crazy feeling of having to do everything NOW!
Remind me of that when I'm on the last day before my in-laws come next weekend.......LOL

A lot of times we feel overwhelmed because we see all the things that have to be done and we want them to get done immediately. Sometimes we see all that needs to be done in the next week or next month and it overwhelms us. Sometimes life throws so much at us at one time we do not think we can take any more.
If we could just take one day at a time and start at the top of our list and just do what we can, we would not be so overwhelmed. But that is not always easy.
Sometimes, when overwhelmed by the stresses all I need to do is get a good night's rest, have a good time of submitting it all to the Lord and the next day it does not seem as bad as the day before.
I am not a last minute person. I do thinks way ahead of time because I hate doing anything at the last minute. I do lists and check them off. Matter of fact, I have my speaker, music and awards already for next August's convention. I even have my rough draft outline of my convention day agenda.
July is such an overwhelming month for me getting ready for convention, but my goal is always to have everything packed up ready to go by August first. Then I have a week to check and double check and triple check everything. When I get to convention I am relaxed and ready to enjoy my favorite day of the year.
But when tensions in the church are added to tensions in my family and they are added to tensions in my physical condition, my emotions are ready to explode and I have to wade through it all until I find peace. Been there just recently.

Seems I've been that way too much the last several years ... cyclical, it seems. Right now, feeling -- knowing -- some things should be done before the snow flies, it struck again.
Also,
have to figure out something in the next five days re the vehicle ... or pay insurance again, as I did 3 months ago, tho' it hasn't been driven since ... still borrowing ma's on occasion, not sure if mine's worth fixing again, at 20 yrs old, since it would be a big $$. But, gotta have wheels! just not tons of public transpo that one could resort to ................

I feel so very overwhelmed....
Pastor, youth leader on Wednesday nights, Sunday School teacher, church receptionist, Missionary president, secretary of the district NYI and Sunday School board, part time waitress, substitute teacher, home schooler, wife, mother...
and the only one who knows how to do dishes, laundry, how to cook, how to change the toilet paper roll, how to vaccuum, or dust, or clean the litter box...
OK, maybe I just needed a good vent. I also need a nap.
