A Christian friend of mine (whom I used to pastor) called today to bring me up to speed on a new call to boycott Wal-Mart for giving "5% of its sales to homosexuals."

The boycott, it turns out, is being called by AFA for the two days after Thanksgiving.

Actual details: Washington DC Community Center for Gay, Lesbian Bisexual and Transgender People markets Wal-Mart products directly from their own web site and get a 5% donation from sales generated directly from their site.

Other retailers that have the same arrangement (with varying percentages) with this organization include: Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Gap, Avon, Toys R Us, Disney Store, Staples, Office Max, FTD, Hallmark, Sharper Image, and Dell.

Interestingly enough AFA doesn't bother to mention these other retailers! I wonder why that is. Doesn't seem very fair...

I am all for morals but it seems to me that the only thing boycotts hurt are hard working underpaid people. I am not always sure thats Christan

for Walmart's decision to go back to the Merry Christmas theme. I agree that it hurts the employees, and I really question whether AFA's attitude is very attractive to people who need to see the love of Christ. The Pharisees would be proud, but I'm not sure about Jesus.

This is not an exclusive program just for the center named above. Several organizations that I know of have agreements with retailers, both online and store locations, to give discounts or rebates (commissions) on the sales generated by that group. Team National is one example. They give a "commission" back to you for online sales through the website for quite a few stores, not just Wal-Mart. Other MLM's and Keller Williams and other companies also have discounts for showing your id card when making a purchase. Any legitimate organization can make the same agreement with these retailers.

To me, it is fine to boycott, if that is what your innermost being feels that you should do, but we do not need to criticize those who do or do not boycott.
