"Comfort ye my people" The commisson to all the Lord's prophets, yes, to all Christ's ministers, to proclaim comfort to God's people. Those who were in captivity were melancholy. We are to give them hope that Christ is going to deliver them from their captivity, and set them free to go home.

"And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed", is the promise among many of The Messiah!

"Ev'ry valley shall be exalted and every mountain shall be made low; the crooked places shall be made straight; the rough places smooth" We must get our hearts levelled by divine grace. Those that are hindered from comfort in Christ by their dejections and despondencies are the valleys that must be exhalted. Those that are hindered in comfort by a proud conceit of their own merit and worth are the mountains and hills that must be made low. Those that have entertained prejudices against the word and ways of God, that are intractable, and disposed to thwart and contradict even that which is plain and easy because it agrees not with their corrupt inclinations and secular interests are the crooked that must be made straight and the rough places that must be made plain.

"O Thou that tellest good tidings to Zion" meaning, the persons who were employed in publishing that proclaimation; let them do it with good will' let them make the country ring with it. To whom shall it be told? to the remanent that are left in Zion and Jerusalem, to the poor of the land, to the captives that belonged to Zion and Jerusalem. Thank God the message is not only to the rich, or the well educated, but also to the poor person, who struggles each day.
