In a recent interview Ben R. addressed his abhorrent behavior by admitting that he got too caught up in being Big "Ben" the SuperBowl winning QB for the Steelers. I found the following quote interesting and worth discussion:

"I was immature-I didn't know what I was doing."-Ben R.

Does anyone buy that? Seriously...I believe the immature part, but how does being immature cause you to misunderstand the word NO?

Questions: Predictions on Big "Ben"... Do the Steelers keep him? Or does he play for another team and win another Superbowl? Or does he fade into obscurity? What do you think?

Meh, I don't really buy it, but I try to keep out of celebrities' lives. They're not role models, they're entertainers. I do think the Steelers will hold on to him.
BTW, shouldn't the quotes be around "Big" or "Big Ben," since Ben actually is his name? :p

I agree with Shea on every point. I do wonder though if Ben actually believes what he said. Older people seem to have no problem saying that younger people are naive and/or ignorant of what constitutes the real world. I know Shea and I have talked about this issue as people have accused us of being such. If someone hears this enough when will they begin to believe it? I don't buy what Ben did, but at the same time, these young men are being handled everyday from high school to college and then all of a sudden they are rich and on their own. It seems the NFL has no problem in making money off these guys and no problem disciplining them when the fail and mess up. However there seems little concern in helping these guys becoming productive men in our society. Of course that takes work. If the Church has trouble discipling then I am sure the NFL would have the same problem with mentor and development programs for their players.

Fellas,

I actually think the Steelers will dump him. I don't know that for sure, but I think this is just too much for him to overcome. He needs a fresh start somewhere else. Right now the Browns could really use him. They have Colt McCoy who is not ready to start in the NFL. Jake Delhomme who was released by Carolina. And Seneca Wallace who was rejected by the Seahawks. So why not add another reject to the bunch. You could have 3 rejected Quarterbacks on one team...all with their eye on the starting position. And it doesn't matter because as far as Cleveland is concerned, they just need a couple years to get McCoy up to speed, then they can dump any or all of the rejects. Moreover, Ben is still productive and could have an instant impact on the team this year. They need some veteran help anyway. It would be kinda cool to see the Browns get Ben and then beat the Steelers in the regular season.

I don't see any reason for the Steelers to dump Roethlisberger, but if they did, I sincerely doubt the Browns would pick him up. Mangini does not need that, and neither he nor Holmgren would want it. Ben could easily come back to the Steelers and win one or two more Superbowls, and despite the negative press I just don't think they are going to give him up that easily. They might try to orchestrate a trade, but he is far too talented to be given the boot without anything in the way of compensation. When it comes down to it, all that can be said of Big Ben is that he has been charged with rape on two occasions. I'm inclined to believe he had sex with those women, and it may or may not have been consensual, but on both occasions the charges have been dropped, and whether it's genuine or not he is acting penitent. If the club were going to flat out dump him, they'd have done it by now. Since they have not, I'm led to assume they will either keep him or trade him, and there's just not much of a trade market for him right now.

Meh,
What is that?
As far as "Big Ben" what does he do to the Steelers as far as the salary cap?

What is that?

It's kinda like a shoulder shrug.

He wins super bowls. I mean, he has won more Super Bowls than Peyton Manning and is paid less. I don't think he's hurting them in the Salary Cap.
