Here's a bit of advanced NazNet Usage that some may want to try. This is not for the novice user -- and there are several steps involved in doing searches that exclude specific forums. Also, you have to be able to create your own favorites/bookmarks (I'll call them "bookmarks" for the rest of this message) on your browser. For most people all this won't be worth the trouble, but for others...well, have fun!

Here's the concept: you are going to create some custom bookmarks for your NazNet Searches.

First some basic concepts. Each forum has an ID number. You can find that ID by resting your mouse pointer on a forum link and then looking at the bottom bar of your browser.

For instance, if you want to know the ID of the Forum: NazNet Power Point Discussion you rest the mouse pointer at that forum, and then look at the bottom of the browser. You will see that that forum ID is 11 because the "f=11" part of the URL means "Forum ID 11."

Now, say you want to create a link that will exclude that forum when you look at "today's posts." Instead of using the "Today's posts" link on NazNet, you simply create a bookmark on your own browser with this URL: http://www.naznet.com/community/search.php?do=getdaily&exclude=11.The link tells NazNet that you want to do a search of "Get daily" (today's) posts and that you want to exclude forum 11.

You can exclude all the forums you want using that method. So if you want to exclude everything except the women's forum that command would look like this:
http://www.naznet.com/community/search.php?do=getdaily&exclude=9,35,12,17,22,23,28,29,32,33,36,14,15,25,1 0,11That link tells NazNet to exclude every forum but one. By the way, the Woman's Forum ID is: 13

Now, let me give you the low down for using the "new posts" command. It actually works the very same way but instead of "getdaily" the key word is "getnew." So if you want to create a bookmark that will search for new posts on only the woman's forum since your last visit you will create this bookmark:
http://www.naznet.com/community/search.php?do=getnew&exclude=9,35,12,17,22,23,28,29,32,33,36,14,15,25,1 0,11On the other hand, if you want to see everything but the Women's Forum, that bookmark is:
http://www.naznet.com/community/search.php?do=getnew&exclude=14 (http://www.naznet.com/community/search.php?do=getnew&exclude=14)
You can create all the bookmarks you like, directing your searches in all kinds of custom ways. One more thing to remember -- when we add new forums, especially those you aren't interested in, you will need to edit your custom bookmarks to exclude the new forums.

Finally, I know someone will ask why we don't have an "include" command as well as an "exclude" command -- I don't have an answer. The ability to "exclude" is simply an undocumented feature of our NazNet software -- so far, there is no "include" capability.

Cool! It didn't take long at all to set up. Thanks for the info, Scott.

Not that I personally would want to view NazNet in an exclusive manner, but, you know, just in case I ever meet anyone who is sometimes in too big a hurry to wade through everything and simply wants to catch the latest happenings on their favorite forums, I can share this useful information with them. If I ever meet anyone like that. Of course, I would remind them that it's important to be inclusive in their approach to NazNet, but you know how some people are.

:p

PS: So then I think you've granted all my expressed wishes, oh great NazNet tech guru. I'll have to dream up some more for your rainy days.

I thought about calling this the "Marsha Lynn Memorial Search Method" just in your honor and now I realize that all your questions and comments about this were merely theoretical!

Meanwhile, there's another thread going that I would love to respond to, but to do so I would have to shed my "cloak of wisdom."

To post and reveal my foolishness or to remain silent and be thought wise? Or would I simply be forgotten? Such a quandary! It's so very difficult to be a strong, silent, wise-looking NazNetter.

Scott,
Is there anyway to delete a thread?
