What is with the Air Horns? Who decided they were a good idea?
Are you irritated by the noise?
How could ANYONE stand an airhorn blowing next to their head for an entire match without punching the guy next to him? I know I would end up knocking the guy out.

I've had air horns mounted on a motorcycle in the past. Have a portable one on our sailboat. I can't imagine anybody setting one of those off near other people except in an emergency situation. Just goes to show that soccer people are nuts... :smilies1127:

They're not air horns like what we mount on vehicles and boats. Instead they're big plastic trumpets (http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/09/sports/soccer/09horn.html) that people blow on. I think my brother and I had something similar as toys when I was a kid. For some reason, I don't remember having them for very long.:smilies0717::smilies0717:
I have seen some people take air horns attached to small air cans into stadiums. They tend to run out of air so aren't blown as much as the trumpets in the RSA.
Edited to add: Actually I'm pretty sure we had those plastic trumpets when I was a kid, I immediately recognized what they were when I saw them on TV. And some of my peers who managed to hold on to theirs until they went to college adapted them for use as beer bongs at their frat parties.

Ben, I understand they are called "vuvuzela's" and the South Africans feel they belong to the game. Personally, I hate the sound and I'm not alone. The broadcasting company here has gotten a LOT of complaints that the horns almost blew away the commentary. They promised to do better. And players complain they can hardly talk to each other.

I feel ya Ben. As one who has a deep hatred for Kazoo's these things just seem to be one step away from my worst nightmare.

After sitting for an hour watching guys run back and forth kicking a ball without a single score....what do you expect from the fan base?
I am not sure which is worse a scoreless sporting event that lasts for hours or a bunch of obnoxious fans.
...and the world wonders why soccer isn't that big of a sport in the US.

Ah...thank you.
I remember those long plastic ones too. Let's hope they don't work their way into 'real' football games. :smilies0717:
