View Full Version : A Nintendo Wii for Christmas

I'm almost embarrassed to admit this, as a "mature" 42-year old....but my wife and kids all pooled together and bought me one of the new Nintendo Wii consoles for Christmas.
My oldest daughter and her boyfriend waited out in the cold for an hour to get it at a Target near where I live, and they split it up into three or four wrapped packages so I wouldn't know what it was. I was completely blown away....cause my wife had talked me into not looking into one "for our son" because of the cost.
And...I love it! I haven't had so much fun with video games since my college days, when I would play "Track and Field" at the student center for hours (so many quarters went into that machine).
The good thing is that, with this console, you have to move around some. So maybe I will lose some of the spare tire around my midsection. :)

My son-in-law, Donny, bought one. I don't know how long he had to wait. I played a little golf on it. I still like my old Red Baron II flight simulator that was made for Windows 95.

They were lucky to find one. :) My boys stood outside a couple of stores in the early morning over the last few weeks waiting to get at their shipment of Wiis, but they missed out both times. Most stores are only getting a few at a time. Now that Christmas is past hopfully they can find it.

Are you in Grinnell, Pam? I'm in Pella. Maybe we could all get together sometime. I don't know much about Grinnell but there are lots of good places to eat in Newton.

I'm up for a NazNet Iowa meeting! Let me know if I can help facilitate. Being in Newton, I'm pretty much in the middle - maybe you all and/or your spouses can come over some evening, talk NazNet, play the Wii, and fellowship together. Bowling and tennis are a real blast. :)

That would be great. My wife and I both work 2nd shift on weekdays so it would have to be on a Saturday or maybe Sunday afternoon.

That's good. :) It is still hard to believe what happened to Maytag. :basic04 We have a number of Maytag people who have come to Pella but now times are slow in the housing market and we aren't hiring. Ten years ago a friend tried to get me to quit Pella and come to Maytag. The hourly pay was better but I don't think the benefits were. I don't remember for sure. I didn't give it serious consideration. I worked at a union plant once before. I think the day of the union has come and gone. I think they do as much harm as good now. Pella has everything a union worker has without the union.

Both of my daughters and son-in-laws are here. Donny brought his Wii. When I play golf on it, I swing too hard. When I bowl, I don't throw the ball hard enough. I think I could improve pretty fast with a little practice. We had more fun making the player's faces :fun06 If I buy one, it will be after all you technogeeks have bought your's and the price goes down to $59.99. :basic05

Hey, Joel and Pam - I've talked to Sharon and we'd like to set something up with both of your families to come over and visit here in Newton. If you're interested, could you both PM me with some possible evenings in January? It would be like a mini NazNet reunion! :)

Hey, do you think we can shoot for February instead? I am having surgery on Friday and it may take me a bit to recover.
