Can anyone recommend a good critique of Molinism? From an Arminian/Wesleyen perspective?

After looking up the term, I am going to hazard a guess and say that maybe some stuff from Open Theologians would be helpful. Tom Oord's book "Creation Made Free" might be a good primer. But, and that is a big but, Open Theism may not be what you are looking for in this regard. Other than that, I am stuck for help.

I skimmed through the Wiki article and I thingDefining Love: A Philosophical, Scientific, and Theological Engagement another by Tom Oord might prove helpful as I think he covers some of the same territory.

Not really. In the end it feels pretty much exactly the same as Calvinism. God still works to make sure some go to hell and others to heaven. God just so happens work it out to where you use your free will to choose it. I might even like that God less than the one that just sends you there whether you like it or not.

Benjamin, agreed. If by foreknowledge God arranges everything in such a way to make our choices certain, that is very much like Calvinism. I'm just looking for a paper that lays that out. :)

Why I am not a Calvinist. (http://www.amazon.com/Why-I-Am-Not-Calvinist/dp/0830832491) Does a reasonably detailed treatment of Molinism if memory serve well. Of course I also read Why I am not an Arminian (http://www.amazon.com/Why-I-Am-Not-Arminian/dp/0830832483/ref=pd_bxgy_b_img_b) and now I am Reformed so you may just want to stick with the first one. :)

Unlike the Calvinist determinist, the Molinist believes God's decrees are dependent on what he knows creatures would freely do in various circumstances. Pg 137

I'm profoundly relieved to know that Molinism is a variant of Calvinism. Initially I thought it was a charge of bias made by someone from Davenport or Rock Island.
(I can resist anything but temptation.)

The interesting thing is, most Calvinists would see Molinism as a variant of Arminianism I would think.

Thanks George. I actually have that book, got it when my brother became a Calvinist. ;) So I'll take a look at it.

SI think the Molinism discusion starts in the 130s try page 134 or 137, from there it rolls right into the Open View.
