How high can you count?

How high can you count?

Kevin's sig line: "There are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand binary, and those who do not."

Is this an expression of awe toward someone who has more than 0 and 1 in their counting vocabulary? My quess is that he's about to run out of unique digits, although I've encountered a few people who borrow symbols from the alphabet in order to keep going.

So, do you count in hexadecimal?

So, do you count in hexadecimal?

No, but thanks to whoever came up with the silly philosophy behind 'new math', I could if I wanted to, even before taking engineering classes. I remember the day while watching a professor scribble boolean algebra on the chalkboard in engineering school that it dawned on me that all those years of 'set theory' in elementary school were supposed to prepare me for that class. What a waste. If nothing else improved between the 60s and the 90s, when my own children were in elementary school, the math curriculum for the lower grades certainly did. I'm not sure my kids can count in 'base 8', but they can glance over a list of numbers and quickly approximate the total in order to compare it with the more precise number on their calculator display, a skill noticeably lacking in my own generation when calculators came along.

Far enough!

The reason for the messages was the testing of the email facility. After the recent move, it did not work any more. Thankfully, it does again! There simply would be no way for me to keep up with the messages without having them sent as emails.

So this thread isn't about counting and math? How embarrassing. Come on, Kev, we're going to have to go someplace else to discuss counting systems.

The e-mail notification is indeed nice. I guess it's worth getting those of us who love numbers all stirred up about nothing by carelessly tossing a bunch of them around while doing something else.

Bob, this was back in January. But I did figure out how to NOT receive messages from the Good Clean Fun forum, at last!!!! :basic05

I'm a member of the tiny (perhaps 1 person) minority that sees no fun in one word responses or the "long short story". And I'm finally free of it! Rejoice!

Off the subject, but I had a great aunt who was an engineer all of her working career. She said she was afraid to try to fly but had to at some point. She said it wasn't so bad after she realized the seat belt device was one she perfected.

Marsha, you would have enjoyed her. She was bright and alert into her 90s.

Shall we have some kind of a support group for those who will be going through withdrawal?

Oh, my.
I thought that I was the only one.

Now, how do I get off the e-mail list for them?

Under "thread tools" one of the options is "unsubscribe from this thread".

You can also go to your profile at "user control panel" and see and modify all of your subscriptions.

Hmm... I'm testing to see whether or not I can post. The boards won't let me reply to another thread (the one on tithing).

Ah, now I see it. I can't post in the theology forum until I've been here a week. Makes sense.

This is a test and only a test. Please remain calm and put your trays in the upright and locked position. Remember this is only a test! Please keep all eyes forward and do not look at the person next to you for they may in fact be trying to steal your thoughts.
