In April this year, we will be hosting Steve and Brenda Heap, missionaries to Brazil.
I have reviewed the information contained on their WM webpage (http://ext.nazarene.org/mpo/pb.exe?job=fp&rgn=NN&key=8092).
I'm wondering if anyone at NazNet has some additional information about the Heaps that would help us in our preparation for our deputation weekend, things of interest, from personal knowledge, from past experience, fun things, etc.
We would like to make the Heaps' visit with us as unique, as comfortable and as enjoyable as possible. Any assistance you can provide will be appreciated.
If you would prefer to respond by e-mail, click here (gord.evans@gmail.com). Thank you.

I'm sure Steve was head of a student missions group at Bethany Nazarene College when I was on the faculty there. He would not remember me. He lucked out by not taking any classes from me.

This may or may not be the same person, Jim. But it would be hugely coincidental that there would be two Steve Heap's who studied at BNC/SNU. Was this back in the late '60s Jim?
The 'bio' information provided says that Steve was ordained by Southeast Oklahoma in 1970, and goes on to say:
"Steve received the B.A. and M.A. degrees from Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Oklahoma. Brenda received the B.S. degree from Oklahoma Central State University, and taught in Oklahoma. Prior to their missionary appointment, the Heaps pastored in Oklahoma."
I figured, for sure, there'd be some folks on NazNet (from BNC/SNU or elsewhere in OK) who know or knew the Heaps. Thanks for your input, Jim.
Perhaps there will be some others, yet, with in-depth information about Steve and/or Brenda.

Ok Gord, this is very cool. I want you to do me a favor - Tell Steve that his Aussie mate says "G'day. It may cause him some slight hesitation.
In 1997 I went to a Spanish evangelism seminar in Costa Rica. I met Steve there. There were not many people that spoke English and all the services were pretty much in Spanish, of which I don't speak a word. Steve used his Portuguese to give me a rough translation of what was going on and we had a pretty good time together. I found his warm and gracious spirit to be worth the trip to discover. He is an amazing man. Those five days were the only time we spent together and we haven't kept in touch so he may not remember me but I sure remember him and it was his spirit that made that so.

The time frame is right for it to be the same Steven Heap. I am sure that I have read of his missions service in the SNU Alumni publication.

This is great, Roland! I will be sure to bring greetings ("G'day") from your five-day encounter, his down-unda mate, from years gone by. That's less than 10 years ago, Roland ... chances are good that Steve will, indeed, recall the circumstances.
Thanks for this gem.

Thanks, Jim. I'll bring greetings to Steve, from "back in the day" at BNC. I'm sure he'll be delighted by this memory!

Well thanks Gord I will be interested to hear if he does in fact remember that encounter.
