McKenna, David. Becoming Nehemiah: Leading with Significance

This 2005 Beacon Hill paperback makes for a fairly quick read. As the title suggests, it is a book on leadership based on Nehemiah.

The interesting thing about this book is that the McKenna brings out the idea that different situations demand different kinds of leadership skills or styles. He follows Nehemiah’s life from cup bearer to engineer to governor and talks about which traits or characteristics went with Nehemiah throughout and which ones had to change or adapt baased on his role.

The book is worth reading if you want something on leadership but have grown tired of the one-size-fits-all approach.

Haven't read the book, but I have a high degree of appreciation for McKenna. He's a Free Methodist and was, at one time, president of Asbury Seminary.

I first became acquainted with his writing years ago in an article in Christianity Today. He related how he was guest preacher at an FM church and took one of the most familiar 'holiness' texts and preached about the work of the Holy Spirit, but deliberately used none of the very familiar 'holiness' jargon. After the service, as he was shaking hands at the door, one of the longtime members of the church remarked, in perplexity, that, though he found the message to be very helpful, he had expected McKenna to preach on holiness.

I've liked all his stuff that I've read.
