I'll be preaching from the Colossians passage here as well - right now planning to focus on 2:15 and the "disarming of the authorities," and what exactly that means for us and for Christ.

I'm preaching from the Lucan passage. I am talking about why we must pray such a prayer. Admittedly, I will be getting into a bit of Open Theism, but of course won't name it.

I am in Hosea these next two weeks.
I am listening to Michael Card's Song of Gomer

thinking about characters: Hosea, Gomer, God, Israel and wondering where we are in the story.
Chronologically Hosea follows Amos. Amos was all about Israel's social sins and Hosea is about their sin of idolatry. One would usually think that the latter leads to the former but instead the former seems to lead to the latter. Our sins against each other result in us moving to sin against God.
Wondering how to find ourselves in the cast. Are we Hosea? Are we Gomer? Are we Israel? We can't be God but we are always called to reflect God. Who are our people in this passage? And of course before I figure out who we (the Chruch, or who my congregation is, I must first realize who I am in this passage and realize where I stand in the midst of the judgment and forgiveness present in this passage

I love the Colossians letter. I decided to preach each week from it. First week, "The Redemption of Sin" 1: 1-14; Last week message was, "The Image of the Invisible God" 1:15-23, this week "Living Through Christ" 2: 6-19. Having a good time in COlossians. Worship team reads the Psalm from the lectioanry for each week. I open with one of the other scriptures usually an OT like Amos 8 "A basket of ripe fruit ... many, many bodies flung everywhere! Silence!" got some raised eyebrows. I usually express the theme I see in the lectionary readings in pening comments of the service. Greats days to be a preacher. Life is Good!

Kaza,

You should check out a song by Andrew Peterson as well... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwmCjcRFArs (It's not a particularly good video... you might find the song elsewhere, it's just "Hosea" from the "Letters of the Resurrection Vol. II" album)

John, (I realize it's too late), but you might try "Invisible God" from the same Andrew Peterson album.
