What do you know about Reiki Healing ministries?

I have looked at their website and it looks like Oriental Eastern Relgion mysticism.

But I have never heard of it.

What does anyone here know about it?

I have a friend who says this was performed on him and the pain left his knee.

Tho' I've not looked at this particular healing method/"ministry," I'd guess that I'd classify it in those things where we don't want to "throw the baby out with the bath water." Acupuncture seems to work, physiologically (from reports; haven't tried it) ... some have wanted to toss it out, as it's "Eastern." Then there are the oils that honestly do help ... were created to do so. As some use them intertwined with their religious beliefs, there are some who would then throw them all out, too ... and, man, they can really help! So, I'd guess --- will go look when I have time later --- this might fall into that category, too, whatever it is. Let's "keep the baby," and just "toss out the bath water." ;)

NOW, maybe someone with more insight into it (who's even looked at it), can tell us more. 'Guess I just felt like talking today.

Their website is "christianreiki.com" but I see nothing that sounds like Christianity and no mention of Christ. It is Japanese and has Japanese "Ideals" that you can learn and chant.
It says that Rei is another name for God but has many other names.

I do not think it is a Christian method of healing.

I thought that CRI might have something on it but apparantly there is nothing on their website. Probe Ministries has significant concerns, in particular about its reliance on "Universal energy" and on channeling - see http://www.probe.org/content/view/520/47/

I wouldn't say that you can't be a Christian yet still practice Reiki but I would certainly consider it to be not compatible with Christian thought and practice.

i have seen the word *reiki* around in various places, but have never read anything about it.

The school that i attend does recognized alternative medicine as having a place in modern healing along side traditional medicine. Reiki is not on the list of alternative medicines that our school acknowledges as being along side traditional medicine.

As for it being Christian or non- Christian - - -

i am a bit troubled by associating healing with being *Christian*. Every day we heal people in our hospitals - some are Christian and some are not. Every day people die in our hospitals - some are Christian and some are not.

i believe that because our Lord came to die for the salvation of souls and the healing of our bodies - - that Christians should dominate the healing world. i don't see that happening. i don't know why. i think that healing is a mystery that has as many unanswered answers as there are answers.

The Nov/Dec 2006 issue of the Christian Research Journal has a six page article on Reiki. The article is written by Sharon Fish Mooney, R.N., Ph.D., who teaches nursing research online for Regis University and Indiana Wesleyan University.

She explores the origins of Reiki as well as the several branches that have evolved. She concludes her article by saying that this alternative health practice "is not based on the biblical understanding of the world and its practices are well outside the biblical boundaries of exploration."

I've had two individuals express interest in being a volunteer chaplain at my hospital who told me they were Reiki healers.

When I told them that they woud not be able to practice Reiki indiscriminately in the hospital (any more than a Christian chaplain can go and pray over every patient) they were surprised.

One seemed to understand what I was saying but before she left my office she announced that she could sense I needed some Reiki healing myself. She was surprised when I declined, saying it wasn't part of my faith.

O.K., my husband is working midnights, and I just woke him up because I was laughing so hard when I read this. I cannot understand anyone sensing anything but contentment, peace and godliness in you.
This is hilarious!!! :basic05

I am glad you mentioned this. Whenever healing is dicussed in Christian circles, I think we emphasize the magical or mystical element a bit too much. I consider people who need healing, pray for it, and then go to a Doctor and get it to be healed, and I consider that God healed them through medicine.

If someone used this type of healing method, the reiki-healing, then I consider that God could heal that person through that means. The crux is if you believe that Christ can heal you through this, and that you believe it is because of his power, and not your own. Then again, I would have a problem with this type healing because it could lead to thinking that it was the method, or system, and not God himself. But of course that happens with traditional, modern medicine. Then again, I don't necessarily believe that God has to heal us if he doesn't choose to. That is a bitter pill to swallow, but one that I have already taken...where is my glass of water?

I don't question whether or not Reiki or other so called alternative healing methods can work. I'm sure there are many testimonials, Christian and non-Christian that suggest that they do, at least in some cases.

While, I do not see any scripturally based conflict between Christian healing and scientific healing (or certain other forms like chiropracty), I do see such conflict when the alternative methods involve channeling or other reliance on the spirit world. I believe that the devil is capable of imitating many spiritual gifts including healing and he will use Reiki or other similar systems to lead us away from Truth.

I think, Brian, that there is more danger of being led to trust the method rather than God with a spirit based system like Reiki than with some other healing methods.
