How about a 'balmy" 19 F this a.m., in N.E. Texas, with a really balmy 49 F this afternoon?
I even fired up the grill (outside) and cooked some goodies.

I think that I shall stay here after seeing your reports from "way up North."

Well, it is 5:30 and 63 degrees Fahrenheit right now.

Tomorrow it is supposed to be 75 degrees!!!

HALLELUJAH, HERE COMES THE SUN!!!

It is usually about 70-75 degrees in the daytime during January-February here in Tucson......but this year has been sooooooooo cold!!! BRRRRRRR

I'm excited for the sun to warm us up again!!!

Donna,

Cold is just the absence of heat, and here in Flint Michigan the heat is absent! The thermometer outside by my front door was on 0 when I went out about 8 this evening.:) There has been a little snow and some of it blowing. There has been another major pile up of cars in a white out on a main road. I think the news said there were 20 cars envolved.:fun19

The teens at church are planning to go sledding after church tomorrow. Since I transport some of them to church, I will go along but plan to stay in the van. I'll take a book with me! But the leaders of the group have a plan B ready in case it is just not wise to be outside.

High of 47F here today. Down to 26 now with a wind chill of 16. Downright balmy! The weather guys missed it! Supposed to be in the upper teens tonight instead of the single digits like they were predicting a couple of days ago. Really makes me yearn for that gorgeous island we were on just a couple of weeks ago. I wanna go back !:fun17

72-87 F here in sunny Brisbane. Beautiful blue skies and mid summer sounds. Of course this is the southern hemisphere.
I do have to say though, "how can you people exist in such temperatures?" I thought I had died when we got down into the 20's in Dallas. I can't imagine what sub zero F is like. The lowest temperature ever recorded in Brisbane was 36 F according to Wikipedia.

It is 15 here in southeastern PA, and the wind chill makes it feel like -2. It is just before 7am on Sunday AM. I am leaving for church, and hoping the baptismal pool water heater worked last night, or we are going to have some "cold disciples" in the water this morning.

I think that I could live with that kind of weather!
Only 87 F in the middle of the Summer? Wow! A regular cool day, compared to the100+ you sometimes experience in Dallas in the Summer.
And I agree about your statement above in reference to some of the really cold temps in the USA: "how can you people exist in such temperatures?"

It is in the middle 30's F on our back porch here in Texas, about 100 miles east of Dallas at 6 a.m. CST.

Like I always say at this time of year...talk to me in the summer.

I can live with the cold of winter far more than I can with unbearable heat.

One nice thing over the last few days is that it has been bright and sunny. No matter how cold it is...if the sun is shining on the snow my spirits are light.

I just snapped this pic out my back door. Sun is still low in the sky but it promises to be a sparkly day.

I do have to say though, "how can you people exist in such temperatures?"

LOL!

1. We dress for it.
I have a wonderful winter jacket. Mittens, gloves and hats are important items. (Although I usually go with just a head band that covers my ears.) Having said that....once it gets below -10 Celsius, I don't usually do much romping outside. But the reality is that anything above that, if you dress warm, it's fine to be outside for a walk, romp and other winter sports. For all the people loving the unseasonable warm and "snowless" weather we had up until the beginning of January, there were just as many itching for the cold and snow so they could go skiing.

2. Our homes are heated.
My house is actually more comfortable in the winter then it is in the summer because it is warm and dry (as opposed to hot and humid).

3. Our cars are heated.
Many people have remote car starters (so that when you go out your car is warmed up). We don't, but one of us usually goes out and gets it started a few minutes in advance.

It was 20 below celsius when we came out of church today. WIth the wind it felt colder. That is a bit nippy yes. But going from the house to the car to the church to the car to the house...you don't really have much time to feel it.

Roland, that is right, tho' you were wondering "how" ... that is exactly what we do do: "exist." "Existing," you see, is not necessarily "living" ... or 'thriving." It's often equated with "hibernating" ... "waiting" (for things to warm up) ... not really "living." BRRRR!

Can't really feel badly for anyone who lives where the "coldest temperature recorded was about 36 degrees Fahrenheit!?!" NICE! :p

... before it was light at all, I was up because I'd forgotten to turn off the alarm, tho' my neighbor had---thankfully---told me yesterday that she was calling her eye dr. this morning and canceling the appt. to which I was to take her this morning. YEA!!

Anyway, while up a few minutes, after a pitstop, I heard -11. Brrrrrrr!!!

Since it was not yet light, and it usually keeps dropping on such a night until the sun is coming up to help take the temp the other way, I'm not sure just how cool it might have gotten between then (about 5:45am) and about 8-ish when the day seems to begin when it's dreary out.

Whatever, that was the actual temp, not windchill. Let's not even talk about the wind now, OK? This is NOT what I planned on experiencing when moving out West. Only wish I could still be there and just visit here ... during WARM weather, not during times like this!

BTW, yesterday or the day before we were hearing how the airport was open, tho' some flights were delayed due to their having fun trying to keep at least one runway open. NO WAY would I want to fly in this sort of stuff! How about planes freezing up ... ice on the wings, etc? Yuck!

It's supposed to be like this for the next several days, too ... doggone. Going to run out of things again ..............................

Well, it's really cold here, north of Toronto, right now. But, next week at this time, I shall be basking in the warmth of the Carribean!!!!!!:fav18

Laurie, where "north of Toronto" are you?

There are at least eight of us Naznetters (including you) "north of Toronto", if you actually include north Toronto in the equation.

Marilyn and Gena are in north Toronto ... Barbara is north of Toronto in Orangeville ... Peter, Mark and I are north of Toronto in the Sutton/Pefferlaw area on the south shore of Lake Simcoe ... Marg is north of Toronto in Ottawa. There are a couple of unnamed lurkers, as well.

Peter, too, will be in the Caribbean next week.

Did I miss anyone??

Temperature-wise, the thermometer on my back deck (Pefferlaw, very near the lake) reads -15 degrees C, or about 5 degrees F. Overnight it will reach about -20 C. here with a windchill of -36 to -40 C., which is about -33 to -40 F. A wee bit chilly.

We cleared about 5" of snow from the driveway today, with more coming throughout the week, right up until Friday, apparently. The current local forecast report is for 2 to 5 cms. (1 to 2 inches) per hour, overnight.

There are very cold winds right now. Though we've experienced blowing snow, there has been very little drifting.

I went to Kindergarten in Beaver Dam Wisconsin. We had the worst blizzard of my life time when we lived there. The snow was level with the top of Dad's car. That was the winter of 1959-60. Then we lived way up north in Spooner for a year and then we lived in Boscobel Wisconsin until I was in the 6th grade. The coldest I can remember was 35 below F with a stiff wind. The farmers even left the cows in the barn. It wasn't safe for man or beast outside.

I laugh at what they let school out for here in Iowa.

Mexico, NY that is. It's in Oswego County. Rome and Athens, NY have been less snowy but pretty cold.

It's been pretty warm (about 20-30 F) and extremely dry (6 inches of snow all winter) out here in the eastern part of NY.

It was near zero, highs in the teens earlier this week and will be again next week.
