Just heard that former General Supt. Dr Orville Jenkins has passed away.He was a Great Leader,Preacher and A model of Godly living. I was in school in KC with their son Orville Jr and had the privilege of being in their home once.THey were very gracious and very kind to this ist year Seminary student.
It is a big loss to our Church and my prayers go out to the family today.

I'm sorry to hear that. I've seen him at a General Assembly, I think in 2001. He was quite old at that time already. I see he was born in 1913, so he must have been 93 or 94?

Yes he was 93-94 years of age.I'm trying to remember ,Hans, did he speak to the 2005 General Assembly? I cannot recall for sure.He was a great man.

Dr. Jenkins was a great leader and lived a full life. The last couple of years, since his wife died, have been difficult for him. His children, Orville, Jr., Jan Calhoun and Jeanie Hubbs are testimonies to Dr. Jenkins leadership. Orville is d.s. of one of the Florida districts. Jan is the wife of the d.s. of the Northern Cal. District. Jeanie is the wife of the Minister of Music for College Church in Olathe and works in Nazarene Headquarters.
When Linda was a teen, Dr. Jenkins was the D.S. of her home district, West Texas.
He will be missed.

These guys sure make heaven all the more dear. Obviously, Jesus alone makes it completely dear, but somehow I look forward to worshiping the Son with a bunch of these people of God.
I am fairly certain he did not speak to the General Assembly in '05.

Thanks for reply.I agree with all you say about Dr Jenkins. He was a Christian gentleman and a true Ambassador for Christ wherever he was.We had the Jenkins stay with us once and they made us feel comfortable and were so very positive.
The evening conversing with them was like a Seminar on Pastoral Ministry and Godly wisdom.I pray that we are producing men and women who can and will step up and lead us in the way that these and some of the other Church leaders we have lost recently.
God Bless!

The last several years have hit our church hard with the continual graduations to Heaven. The last several weeks have hit me in the gut. When several graduate at the same time, it makes the pill larger and harder to swallow.
i echo your prayer, Tom. i pray for godly men and women whose lives model the dedication and disciplines of Christ as the ones who are leaving us have modeled.
We are suppose to be the next generation.
i have so much more to learn.

Belinda,
THanks for the good reply! I agree that it is pretty earth shattering to lose so many of our Spiritual Giants and heroes in recent weeks. You're right it's our turn.Good to hear from you!

Jeannie was in one of my classes at BNC. Mrs. Jenkins was a sister of Mrs. Eugene Stowe and Mrs. Ponder Gilliland and their brother Grady Cantrell was the DS of the Intermountain District back in 60s. Lynn and Gayla Stowe were at BNC while I was there also. Dr. Stowe was my College Church pastor. Great leaders all around and today I found out that Dr. Stowe and Dr. B. Edgar Johnson had been college roommates at Pasadena.
