Brinx is gaining weight and having some skin irritation which he keeps licking at. I thought I would try changing his diet.

I have gone to this store in Orangeville (link below). Has anyone tried something similiar with their dogs? Willing to share results?

It sounds good. We don't buy the cheap food for our cat. We always get iams or science diet. They are supposed to be better. There used to be a pet shop in town that sold diamond pet food. That was good too but the pet shop closed. Our cat is 7 years old and very healthy and energetic.

The testimonials are very convincing. I'm willing to try it for a while.

After carefully reading through all the ingredients, I thought I would even try a little "taste". It was very good actually.

He might actually think he is getting people food.

Barbara,

Is his skin dry and itchy? I have read that a dog can get dry, itchy skin in the winter and adding a little oil to his food helps that. You might want to research that and see if it is true.

Barbara, that food sounds wonderful. I took a look at all the ingredients, and I'm very impressed.

We did a lot of research into our dogs' food when we got Ebony. I wish I had known about premium dog foods when we had our other dogs. There was a lot I didn't know, and a lot I have learned.....at this point we feed a holistic food -- Nutro Ultra. Katie gets the weight management and Ebony gets the adult large dog variety. They both love it, and they've been so healthy and have beautiful coats -- all of which I attribute to a good diet.

I'm so glad you were able to find this. Sounds YUMMY for Brinx!!!

Hey Barbara -- here is a web site to what we feed Nutro Ultra Holistic Dog Food Products (http://www.ultraholistic.com/index.html)

(I really like what I saw on the web site of the food that you're going to be using -- It looks like they deliver it to you every day? There was a company in Phoenix that delivered dog food every day, but we could not get it here in Tucson. I'd like to hear how it works out for you)

Also, here is a web site that has a LOT of good information on it -- and not just about Great Danes.

Thanks for the links.

This store doesn't deliver, but it is only five minutes from my house by car. I will buy the meatloaf frozen in trays that will do him for two days so I will just need to keep one unthawed in advance. I'll probably just make going there part of my weekly grocery shopping. It's a great store. The owner has her dog there and there's lots of good doggy talk going on with the customers (who often bring in their dogs).

I'll say this. He came downstairs and ate his breakfast right away this morning. Traditionally his food sits in his bowl until he is so hungry he gives in and eats it.

I also bought special doggy cookies. He loves them as a treat and they are way better then what I would buy in a store.

I have disposed of all the grocery store pet food and treats I was using. :-)

I'm SURE I would love that store!! I love doggy talk! Well, keep us posted on how he does on that food -- especially those of us die-hard doggy people!!

I would hesitate to change foods at this house. Both dogs doing fine on this premium kibble. Nutro also makes pouches of food, sort of like canned food, I guess, that I mix in as a treat once in a while, and of course, they love that. But with their coats being so nice, they are healthy, bright eyes, smart dogs, no health issues, love to exercise and all -- I think I'll probably stick with this food. Don't want to mess with success!!! I'm sure my dogs would love that food, though!! LOL Isn't it so neat when they enjoy their meals so much? One of my favorite times to watch them is when they are eating AND their tail is wagging!!
