I'm way too young, but I leave in a few minutes to go with our senior adults to visit our Nazarene neighbors to the north (Racine Taylor Avenue Church of the Nazarene) for a seniors' potluck luncheon.
They have a special guest who does dramatizations of famous women from history such as Eleanor Roosevelt... This ought to be pretty interesting!

Tell us about it when you can. Sounds interesting to this Geographer/Historian sometimes known as the hysterical geographer.

I work with our District Prime Timers.
They are the greatest people on the earth.
I would like to know more about the speaker as well.
Please keep us posted.

We gathered in the fellowship hall and when it was almost time to eat, a lady walked in and the pastor introduced her to us as Mrs. Mary Todd Lincoln. She was in period costume and thanked us for inviting her and began to tell us her life story. After a few minutes she suggested that we "adjourn to lunch" during which time she remained in character and chatted as Mrs. Lincoln with those at her table. Following lunch she resumed her story. Of course, she focused on her life as it revolved around her husband. It was interesting to hear about many of the stories surrounding his life other than his political position and that he freed the slaves. At the end she finally broke character and invited questions.
She was a good actress and brought the emotional side to light. For example, we've all seen some of the political cartoons making fun of Lincoln and she talked about how it hurt her, and she talked about Mr. Lincoln and herself dealt with the death of their sons, etc.
Oh, yeah, these Nazarene ladies can cook!!!

I have a friend here that portrays various male Bible characters very well. And I have seen Hal Holbrook do Mark Twain on TV. I enjoy a character play if it is well researched and done well. I once tried, as a teaching strategy, to do recently elected President George Washington as if he were facing a modern day press conference for my US History class at the high school level. I had scripted questions handed out to different members of the class. It went over quite well. I always enjoyed Walter Cronkite's radio program, "You are There," where different historical events were portrayed as though a team of modern day reporters were reporting from the scene. It brought history home to me quite vividly. I remember the portrayals of the "Execution of Maximillian, the Senate vote on the Impeachment of Andrew Johnson, Gettysburg, Assassination of Lincoln," and others.

Kudos to you, Jim!
I wish all teachers were that invested in their trade.

A few years back now , on a Sunday our pastor was on vacation we had a Christian teacher come , dressed as James . He proceeded to quote the entire book with great inflection , etc . Only thing rather incongruent was that he had left his wristwatch on ! Don't recall his name now but he was great !

Wilson, you might think you are "way too young". But I question that.
David Wilson was our Pastor for eleven or more years. He arrived here with children in grade school. So what age is that, maybe forty something.
He just was so great with all of we Seniors. We loved him to death and we all miss him so much. The whole church does to this day.
I think you just might have more than you can imagine to give to older people.
We are more settled (hopefully) better listeners, usually some more educated and on and on. Great helpers, sometimes fuller bill folds.:)
You have so much to offer in the Lords work. So do not be surprised when the Lord leads you on to larger congregations.

Wilson, Now you are making me wonder just how young is too young--considering that I do not know your age.
When we were at Trevecca, Dwayne seemed to find it hard to enjoy visiting with older people. But, something about me always loved Senior Citizens. So, we continued over the years spending time with them. They are a great pleasure, plus having a wealth of knowledge. Most of them prefer to be treated as an equal, no matter what the other person's age is. Or, at least I do.
So, I am also wondering what your age is. Ha NOSY!
I am 68 years of age today.

I'm getting close to the point where I won't "premature" gray anymore. I'll just be gray. ;)
I'll be 47 next month!

I have found that seniors are very nice to younger people who get involved with them.
In a church I went to when I was in school in Minneapolis, I sort of accidentally wound up in a Sunday school class where I was (at that time) the only one under forty. They were really a blessing to me.
I'm past forty now and teaching what is primarily a seniors class, and again, they're treating me just fine.
