Has anyone used this yet? How does it seem to you?

The netbook I'm using has 7 Starter Edition. I'm not overly impressed. It's better than Vista, but XP is still my favorite.

Yes, I'm running it at the office. Quite pleased with it. Haven't had any crashes so far but obviously, sometimes there are troubles with programs that aren't adjusted to Windows 7 yet. All in all, Windows 7 is a very good reason to forget about Vista as soon as possible.

My netbook has XP on it...I am looking at it fondly right now as it sits on my kitchen counter right now...;) It was hardly ever used in the past except for emergencies. Now, it is looking quite useful over there.

My main issue is that no one told me that Windows 7 does NOT come with outlook express for email. I am not at all pleased about this. I am a creature of habit, and I liked my outlook express. I was really stressing out for a while there cuz my online classes use the newsgroups in outlook express. My class starts Monday and I am supposed to be working on assignments right now. Thankfully, NBConline is on the ball and has provided information on using windows 7 and live email. whew!!

Oh, and when I was fussing over this with my dad just now, he said "this kind of stuff is for younger folks. I would get too easily frustrated over that." I told him that I think this means that I am officially OLD now!!

Has anyone used this yet? How does it seem to you? I used the beta version for a long time before Windows 7 came out. Linda and I are both running it now. We have not really had any problems.

I tend to be an "early adopter" which means that I usually get the newest version of everything, even before the bugs are out.

I really like my Windows 7 computers.

Starter edition is nothing like the full blown 7. I was reading up on the SE, and one of the articles I found said you couldn't even change your desktop image. It's a very basic, limited edition that is nowhere close to the full editions.

Windows 7 is much better than Vista, but that's not saying much. I just hate trying to find stuff in Control Panel, though. I've not run into any program incompatibilities. Of course, it doesn't compare to my Macbook at home, though! :)

Shea, do you know if there are FREE downloads available to improve 7 SE?

I finally learned how to sync my emails together on windows live email so my emailing life will not be distrupted. And I thankfully found the newsgroups section in time for my class to start tomorrow. whew! Now that I have that part figured out, I can enjoy the rest of windows 7 and my new 'puter :)

What class are you taking, Susan?Naz History and Polity through Nazarene Bible College Online. I have tons of reading to do which I had planned on starting on Saturday. But, instead I spent hours messing with the computer and then dealing with the tension headache afterwards. sigh....:(

I think I might be in love with a new windows product. I have not had any crashes since I have bought it and it seems to have taken what I like about xp and what I liked about vista and made it better. Besides since I am a gamer I know have access to take full advantage of 64bits and lots of ram:P

I really like Windows 7. But I'm still struggling with MS Word 2010. I can find everything I need but but the commands don't seem to be in the most logical places. Even after locating them a couple of times, I still find myself hunting for them again the next time I need the ones I don't use often.

Absolutely hear that! It took me close to a half hour to figure out how to print with it. Who on earth would guess that the silly emblem looking thing in the upper left corner is the magic button that makes things work?

I am ok without the printed manuals, I can generally figure things out by exploring and using the help utility. But that stupid button had me stumped!

Totally agree, and I work in IT. Word and Excel 2010 are so different than the pre-2007 versions that I still struggle with them.

Sometimes Microsoft seems so very arrogant. They invented the standard menus that allow us to navigate any Windows program down familiar pathways. Then they threw out their own format which had become completely standardized!

I use OpenOffice for all my "office" needs now except when I need a database. Then I open up MS Access 2007 and consider adding swear words to my vocabulary as I try to find even the most basic commands in the new format. During my first encounters, I about pulled my hair out before I discovered that "report view" does not show the output format of a report. One must choose "print preview" to get an actual view of what the report will look like on paper. Huh? What is the purpose of "report view" if it doesn't show what the report will look like?

Windows 7, on the other hand, seems to be a well-done "next step" in the ongoing evolution of Windows.

I think they are trying to make it a little more friendly but forgot to take into account those who have been ingrained in the old system. I know for me windows 7 is great because it will actually take my ram for once.

This add on is new for me, but it looks like a "fix" for Office 2010. It's an add on called UBitMenu, free for personal use. It adds a classic Office 2003 (and prior) menu to Office 2010 programs like Word and Execl and Powerpoint. Download, run the installer, open the program and click on the "Menu" tab and you'll feel right at home. http://www.ubit.ch/software/ubitmenu-languages/ - run at your own risk - all I can say is that it works and that my virus checker says it's clean.

Right after I moved to Windows 7 I did the same thing with the start menu. I didn't like the Windows 7 start menu so I replaced it with Classic Shell. It looks like the XP Classic start menu and can be turned off and on. However, I've never turned it off as it feel right at home for me. http://classicshell.sourceforge.net/ I've been running this one for quite some time and have had no problems with it at all.

I was noting the beautiful desktop background pictures of the winter theme in Win 7. There are some very nice themes available for download.

Agreed. It is far more stable, but there are significant compatibility issues with it.

Just wondering, did you guys go straight from 2003 to 2010? I have Office '07 Student Edition (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, OneNote, and some 'tools') on my machines. When I installed it, it had the customary "what's new with ___?" screen, and it included the new start menu setup. I clicked through the tutorial pretty quickly, and within a week the menu was fairly intuitive. I especially like that certain tabs will be added depending on what your file contains- for instance, if I paste a picture into Word, the "picture tools" menu shows up, and is even highlighted red to make me aware of its location. The one thing I continually forget is that footnotes are in the "references" section, rather than the "insert" section, but now that I have EndNote, that's shouldn't be much of a problem for much longer :).
