http://www.homerunthemovie.com/ For American moviegoers, please check this out! It is an awesome movie about doing the right thing and the Body of Christ being salt & light. It is beginning its third week at theaters across the US. My wife has seen it twice; I saw it three times -- once with an alcoholic school teacher who has not previously been able to stop drinking and once with a man who is same sex attracted and lives with loneliness & depression. Not artificial like some Christian based movies, this one is GREAT!

I won't post too much about it right now because of the risk of posting spoilers. It is definitely my favorite of the three Iron Man movies (though I still like The Avengers better). Great acting, great effects, great story, etc. I'll try to see it another time or two in the theater. (Not pushing for a lot of theatrical viewings, though. I saw my two favorite movies of last year, The Hobbit & The Avengers, six times each. There are a bunch of movies that I am excited for this year, but nothing on that level until the next Hobbit movie comes out.)

I had a couple people on facebook mention that they were thinking about taking their younger kids and wanting my input on the sexuality and violence. So here is the response that I gave them:

As far as sexual content goes, definitely less than Iron Man (I don't really remember there being any in Iron Man 2, but I'm sure that there was). Tony tells a couple of crude jokes. In a flashback scene, there is an implied one-night stand (though absolutely nothing is seen). Tony and Pepper lie in bed together (unmarried, it is assumed), but they don't do anything sexual. Several women (including Pepper) get some screen time in their underwear, but it is less than in X-Men: First Class. There is a really weird large stuffed bunny with big breasts (you can actually see this very briefly in one of the trailers at 1:19. No, I'm not the one who noticed it. A colleague messaged me Thursday morning after watching the trailer to ask me if he saw what he thought he saw, so I checked it out. From the trailer I couldn't really tell what it was, though it was obviously something inanimate with large breasts. There is no question about what it is in the actual movie, though.)

As far as violence goes, there is definitely more than in the previous Marvel Cinematic Universe movies. It is quite a bit darker in tone, too (though there is still quite a bit of Tony Stark's humor). Is it too violent for younger children? I'm really not sure. I think that if they've seen the others it is probably alright on a home TV. The violence is more pronounced in a movie theater, though. I think that if I had let my own kid see the others, I would probably let them see it in the theater, but without actually being a parent, it is hard to say for sure. If there is any way to do so, it might not be a bad idea to watch it first and then decide.

One of those feel-good-at-the-end movies. We had read reports of people breaking into applause at the end, and that happened where we were. At the end of a week that for Bostonians began with the Marathon Bombings, we were ready for a warm fuzzy. 42 fit the bill. Probably a good show for individuals wanting to see yet another portrayal of racism in the USA. Harrison Ford is aging, and it becomes him in this picture. I'll go again. It's not all Sunday School language, but I'm afraid I understood all the words.
