This came to me from INCA -- Indiana Nazarene Clergy Association -- via my pastor. I presume they will accept volunteers from outside the state of Indiana. It included a schedule of events (Saturday, June 22 into the next week) and how many people are needed for each, but the formatting didn't survive copy/paste. If you want more details, I can forward the email to you. Or you can click the links.

----------------

Greetings!

As you all know, Nazarene General Assembly is around the corner. Along with this gathering, there are volunteer needs in many different areas. One specific area that is an important need is the area of technology. We need several people to volunteer to be on the Technology Team for this event. Below is a schedule and how many people are needed. Also, you will find 2 links at the bottom of this email that will direct you in signing up for specific days to volunteer for General assembly Tech Team.

The Tech Team will assist presenters and delegates who are using specifically issued e-reader tablets for the instructions, readings, and general information they will be provided. There will be instructions given to teams members to understand how the tablets function.

The level of expertise we are looking for includes:

great people skills and unlimited patience with users who may be new to using tablets

a high comfort level using and navigating on Android smartphones or Android tablets

ability to trouble shoot tablet problems for delegates under pressure

When you sign up, you will be contacted with more specific information about where to be and what time you need to be there....

In particular, I want to highlight that GA-313 to GA-322 have been reassigned to the Special Resolutions Committee. I sure hope that the SR committee has more than 7 members on it. If not, I'd like to go on record saying that I think this is a BAD idea.

Granted, most of those resolutions come from the General Board or the BGS... and will likely pass without much debate. However, shuffling these resolutions off to a special hand-picked committee gives an appearance that is less than transparent and open.

In the DELEGATES’ ORIENTATION TO THE LEGISLATIVE PROCEDURES document it says:

In the midst of the celebration, we will be conducting the business of the Church, examining questions that are important to the “family” in one part of the world or in another. The early Church council meeting recorded in Acts 15 is our precedent for this activity. The members of that council, who were gathered in Jerusalem, rejoiced at the expansion of the Church into new areas of the world and among new people groups. That expansion raised some difficult and delicate questions that needed to be answered. In the midst of our rejoicing in God's work in the expansion of the Church of the Nazarene, there are always new questions that need to be faced and old questions that need to be reviewed.

And also:

Every suggestion coming to the General Assembly, whether from a committee, from your regional caucus, from any of the several districts, or from other approved groups, is written in the form of a “resolution,” most of which propose to change the wording or to amend the Manual of the Church of the Nazarene. These amendments serve the same purpose as the letter to the churches that we find in Acts 15.

So where is the resolution that says:

“The brothers and sisters, both laity and elders, meeting at this 2013 General Assembly, to the believers of Gentile origin in the whole world, greetings. Since we have heard that certain persons who have gone out from us, though with no instructions from us, have said things to disturb you and have unsettled your minds, 25 we have decided unanimously to choose representatives and send them to you: our beloved general superintendents, who have risked their lives for the sake of our Lord Jesus Christ. For it has seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us to delete the Covenant of Christian Conduct from the Manual and impose on you no further burden than these essentials: that you abstain from what has been sacrificed to idols and from blood and from what is strangled and from fornication. If you keep yourselves from these, you will do well. Farewell.”

It seems that those writing resolutions are either giving in early to the notion that their idea will be referred or, since it has been our practice, some think that's just what we're "supposed" to do now. There are several resolutions calling not for a change, but for a study or committee to study possible change.

The train is not going any faster. It might be slowing down. :smilies1447:

Again I ask: Do we trust ourselves and the Holy Spirit?

Just as an example:
Do we really need a committee about what to do with associate membership? I don't know: maybe we do. Perhaps it's one of those situations that just because it doesn't affect me all that much doesn't mean it's not important to others.

I notice that the nametag shows me as coming from "Cape Elizabeth, ME."
I presume that non-USA delegates will have their country listed instead of (or in addition to) their state.
That is unfortunate.
I wish that my nametag said "Maine, USA" or "Cape Elizabeth, ME (USA)" or whatever nomenclature will be used for the rest of the world.

Hey all,

Delegates to General Assembly have been notified that they can now view General Assembly resolutions on an open website. I checked in with the General Secretary's office which said that there will be an official announcement in a few days to the general public (the Nazarene portion of it anyway ) as to how to access them. In deference to their sentiment that it would be good to give the delegates a few days to view them, I won't share that site here yet but wanted everyone to know that the resolutions are on their way- along with a couple of commission reports.
