Prayer Major Crash on I - 81 in Harrisburg

Yesterday morning around 6, a truck carrying a full load of diesel turned over on a ramp, caught on fire and burned the concrete overpasses over it. The driver escaped with only minor injuries. But the overpass has been deemed unsafe so I - 81 is closed until the overpasses are removed. 100,000 drivers use this road everyday. And then there is the major road that used that overpass, which is now closed.

Harrisburg is THE trucking hub of the East Coast. People are using side roads for detours but those roads can't handle the increased traffic. People are becoming quite aggressive and more accidents, one fatal so far, are occuring. There are two stretches of I - 81 which are closed now.

Pray for this region. This is such a mess. People are struggling to find good alternative routes - visitors as well as locals. Drivers are frustrated and agressive; making poor driving choices.

Pray also for the construction crews which are working around the clock, and during thunderstorms with the goal of removing the damaged overpass so that 81 can be opened up by morning commute on Monday.

And if you were planning on driving through the area this weekend - DON'T. You will regret it.

Finally, a very important prayer request. This week Pastor Dale Cozby (Crossroads Church) shared with us that he has some very significant life threatening health issues. In the next few days, he will be going through some major surgery. We have assured him that his district will be bowing before the Father on his behalf as he goes through this tumultuous time.

When this year began, I was looking forward with anticipation to the year 2013, having made plans for something I was looking forward to. Three days...

When this year began, I was looking forward with anticipation to the year 2013, having made plans for something I was looking forward to. Three days into the year, I received some news that threw a wrench into those plans, and since that time the year has been stressful and tiring. I am hoping that there will be some resolution soon. But this week has been more tiring. I'm trying to control the stress and feel like I'm actually dealing with it fairly well by keeping things in God's hands (and I truly do have a peace about things), but the schedule this week has been busier than normal, and for some reason I haven't been sleeping well this week. I feel really tired, and the muscles in my back/shoulder/neck area have developed a knot that has made things a bit painful (as much as I am trying to keep the stress under control, I think the muscle tension is stress-related).

Here's the thing. I need a good sabbath rest. Friday is scheduled to be my day off. I generally try to stay off the computer on my Sabbath because I do so much of my work on the computer, staying away from the computer is part of my way of resting from my everyday labors. I also hope to be able to not answer the phone, because over the past several days off, people have called me and it's usually been work-related. I really need a full day of being able to get my mind off of work-related stuff. I also could really use a good night's sleep. While I am confident that God is working things out in the long run and I have peace about that, I really am looking for a good Sabbath rest on Friday (starting with a restful night's sleep tonight), and am asking anyone who would be so inclined to do so to pray for me along these lines.

Thanks!

I had posted last week regarding my dad's hip surgery.

Well, he came through the surgery fine, but he has not completely regained his memory or mental capacity -- the doctors and nurses have said that this sometimes happens with older patients, and that many times it just takes time to recover from the anesthesia -- please pray that this is the case!! Physically he is doing well and walking well with a walker.

NOW, MY MOM -- my sister took my mother to the emergency room last night, because her blood pressure was dangerously high. I stayed up late hoping that I would hear from them, but so far, nothing. I do know that my mom was discharged from the emergency room because I called the hospital, but they wouldn't give me any details, of course. At least that is good news. I'm hoping they are just exhausted and went straight to sleep when they got home -- I'll be calling early in the morning, you can count on that!! haha

So, please pray for my mom, my dad, and my sister as she looks after both of them. I will be there next week and spend a few days, and then again in June, and probably spend a month or so in July while my dad is recovering from his surgery -- between the three siblings, we can hopefully stay with them for a few months. It's really easiest for me to stay longer periods because I can work anywhere there is internet....so I'll probably stay quite a bit, or as long as they need me to be there......

Thanks again for your prayers. I will update later as I hear more information.....when it rains it pours....

Dear friends,

Dear friends,

I need to give you an explanation for this prayer request. Last Wednesday, Hannie and I were having a walk while all of a sudden, out of the blue really, I lost a lot of blood with what initially felt somewhat like a fart. Upon touching my jeans to check what had happened, my hand was full of blood.

So we contacted my doctor, walked back to the car, drove home and visited her. She checked me out and sent me on to the hospital. There they checked my blood and thankfully, the Hb was 9.1 mmol/l which is good. Checked further and asked many, many questions. They think some vein had ruptured, but they (and I) want to be sure so there will be a colonoscopy. That will be on the 15th.

The first 24 hours I kept losing blood with every visit to the bathroom. That is over now and there is no more blood leaving my body.

The signs don't make it look like cancer, but of course I don't know for certain yet. There is a genetic disposition: both my father and his brother died of colon cander.

It might be that everything is ok with the colonoscopy, it might be that they find something and need to take a biopsy. In that case, I won't hear about the result till the 31st when I have an appointment with the doctor at the hospital.

I've been feeling great all of the time, no dizzyness, no pain, no fatigue, no nothing. So it feels rather weird to have experienced this. But I do hope and pray everything will be ok. Myself, I have no problem at all going to the best place imaginable, but for those who would be left behind, the picture is totally different. Which is obviously a serious concern for me and the reason I'd like to stay here. Perhaps there is no reason to even think of this, but we don't know yet.

Perhaps you can pray for a good outcome to all of this.

This email was sent out by the South Texas district office last night. Stanley and I served on staff together at PFC. He was a great friend and I am simply stunned. Pray for my wife Tracie as well please, who has made a quick trip down to Houston to be with Debbie and the girls. Stanley's brother died about three years ago, meaning his mom is now burying her last son.

I received several messages this afternoon telling me about the death of Stanley Oakes. Stanley and his wife Debbie (Pitts) Oakes participated in special music at District Assemblies in the past. Stanley's family were long time members of Pasadena First. Stanley suffered a heart attack on Saturday afternoon and passed away. He was playing his viola with a group at a Wedding. Stanley and Debbie have two daughters, Allie Oakes, student at Southern Nazarene University, and Victoria (Oakes) Siems.

Edna and Elmer Pitts are long time members of the Nacogdoches Church and parents of Debbie Oakes.

Please pray for Debbie and family as well as the extended family of Stanley Oakes during this sudden loss!
Dan McLean is one of my dearest friends. Dan's son, David, has struggled most of his adult life, and I have been instrumental in getting him into detox a couple times.
