if you edit a post after someone thanks you it erases thier thanks and reduces the number in your total. That explains why my number goes down from time to time. I often find typos in my posts...

I find the delay after I log-in for the first time annoying. The delay is caused by a meta refresh tag in the header. If this is removed it will still redirect, but it will happen almost instantly....
