    Happy reformation sunday!

So how many of your church's today do/did anything in observance of Reformation Sunday?

Mine will be acknowledging it by referencing it during sermon on salvation by grace...

Nothing. We did take in 14 new members. All from other churches though.

Wasn't even aware of it. We did our Pastor appreciation last week.

This week we are hosting a two hour song service, just like the old days! We sent letters out to twenty area churches and my wife and I have been out canvassing churches farther away for the past three weeks. We've heard back from three churches who are cancelling their evening service to come here, and we have heard from folks who are driving close to an hour.

I've been here all day making sure everything is ready. If we are sucessful, we are planning on doing this once a month for six months. I've also been invited to begin a similar program for a group of churches about a half hours drive from here, but one thing at a time, hopefully we can fill the sanctary and use the overflow area!
    -Jim

To know and to serve God, of course, is why we're here, a clear truth, that, like the nose on your face, is near at hand and easily discernible but can make you dizzy if you try to focus on it hard. But a little faith will see you through.

    Re: Happy reformation sunday!

No mention here this year. We celebrated 75 years as a church this morning with many former members in attendance, including two former pastors. It was quite the party! A plaque was given to one member for 63 years of attendance, starting the first Sunday after his birth. If they still gave those little pins and bars for perfect attendance, his would be sweeping the floor. He missed a couple of weeks when he got his heart defibrillator and with the problems related to that event, but probably hasn't missed two dozen times in those 63 years.

I got to be involved in the congregational music part. We sang, "Holiness unto the Lord," "How Firm a Foundation," "All to Us" (Chris Tomlin), and "Our Heart." If you do contemporary music and don't know the last one, you should -- wonderful song for congregational singing.

I remember those from when I was a kid and they went by the technical name, "a singing." For example, it would be announced, "Next Sunday night we're having a singing."

I have a couple of families in my church that are hardcore against Halloween so this gives me a chance to remind them that can celebrate Reformation day instead. It seems to make them pretty happy.

Yea, that's a great substitute holiday -- as long as you can still dress up in fun costumes and go around collecting candy.
